Julia Funke is top notch! Navigating the documentation process is wildly complicated, as is finding competent legal help. We were so lucky to find Julia. She checked all of the boxes: extremely knowlegeable, very prompt in responding, and supportive with a very kind demeanor. I cannot recommend her more highly. Speak with her with her regarding your immigration law questions, and you will get answers.

I have been working with Attorney Julia and had a great experience with her. She is very knowledgeable, confident and responds to all the questions. I almost gave up on my H1B Petition and lost hopes but she was very confident and I finally received approval. Without her it would have been very difficult for me to obtain approval on my complicated case.I definitely recommend her for H1B petitions.

Exceptional!! Thank you so much, Attorney, Julia for helping me to get my Non-Immigrant petition (H1-B) approved. Attorney, Julia ensured I was moving in the right direction with strategic steps to meet the goals during the entire journey. Attorney, Julia was very knowledgeable, compassionate, Kind and I was receiving very timely responses. There was always continuous communication for every question I was having during the entire process. When I received some complex Requests for Additional Evidence, I did not know whether I would go through this battle with flying colors. But, Attorney Julia ensured that we were going through this successfully. No words will be sufficient to express my sincere gratitude. I was very happy during the entire journey and smooth transition when I did not see myself to be in the position where I m in today. At a point when I was losing hope with consistent setbacks with unseen tears, Attorney, Julia ensured I was smiling back with the help and for getting my Non-Immigrant Visa (H1-B) approved. I would recommend myself and others working with Attorney, Julia, in the future and you will feel confident and relaxed that your visa process is in safe hands. Its been truly a pleasure working with Attorney, Julia, and heartful thanks on behalf of me and my family.

In our immigration case Attorney Julia Funke was very helpful. She is a very confident, knowledgeable attorney who knows how to assist and advise her clients. From our first meeting my wife and I knew we want to work with her. During our green card process, she was very informative, concise in advising us about procedures and what documentation needs to be completed. Our green card application went very smoothly ( received in short 6 months) with her guidance , completion of the paperwork as well as preparation for an interview. Everything was done very quickly by her and most importantly on the day we discussed. Through the entire process, Julia was always available to answer our questions right away ( in person, by phone or email). If not for you, this might have been stressful, long process. With your assistance all was smooth and quick. We really appreciate your help, your professionalism, knowledge of the immigration law, quick responses and availability when needed. We will not hesitate to recommend your services to anyone in need of an immigration attorney .

There are not enough words to convey what a blessing Mr.Emerson was for our family. He fought for my daughter on a college level to make sure her accommodations were legally met. When we called him to tell him all the hard work had paid off and she was accepted into her program, it felt like we had just told a family member. He was so excited for her and that meant so much to us. He has a true passion and love for what he does. I would highly recommend him. He's not just an awesome attorney but he's a wonderful, caring person. We just can't thank him enough.

Mr. Emerson was instrumental in helping me through a very difficult time with my school district. I would have been at a loss without him. I am now in a much healthier situation, mentally and financially! If you're in education or have an educational legal issue, he is your guy! I feel grateful and blessed to have had him on my side during such an awful time! Thank you!

Having someone go the extra mile, when I wasn’t able to, made me feel much better about my involvement and my responsibilities related to a foreclosure matter against a series of large banks I was handling for more than 5 years. Ms. Gaddy’s high standards and attention to detail made the process and result something I can look back on happy that I was involved. I felt lucky to find someone who wasn’t content with knowing more than me she wanted to know more than all the experts involved and the Judge’s order indicates that she did. It was a tremendous relief to know that we shared the same goal for the result of the case. I looked like a hero when it could have gone a very different way. I regularly conduct business with people and I try not to get upset when someone values their payment over their performance but I truly enjoy when someone values their performance above all. Thank you Susan for making this the foreclosure equivalent of David VS Goliath instead of the basketball equivalent of Michael Jordan VS Damian Falcone.

Ms. Gaddy took real concern for my situation from the initial consultation forward. She laid out what was needed, cost, possible outcomes, contingency plans and probable outcomes in a clear and concise manner. I retained Ms. Gaddy late in the process as I was blindsided by a foreclosure hearing on my mother’s home. Ms. Gaddy dropped weekend plans writing answers, motions, and collecting information (all that legal stuff only lawyers know) to halt the proceedings. Her keen knowledge of South Carolina foreclosures and her experience with the complexities of the process were clearly evident as the tables turned after our first court hearing. I can't imagine going through it without Ms. Gaddy.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
