Joe not only acts on your behalf as an amazing attorney with your current case, he becomes a friend and trusted confidant that will always be there in times of need. His results driven practice is built on family values and that means treating his clients like family and doing everything in his power to make sure justice is served. Joe helped me seek damages after I was rear ended by a careless driver. He worked hard to ensure my claim was handled fairly and properly and we were able to settle outside of court with the other drivers insurance. He was able to negotiate pain and suffering, all medical bills, and even the depreciation of my new car. Do yourself a favor and make Joe your counsel, you won't be disappointed and you'll gain a lifelong friend.

I was injured two years ago in an accident that in no way was my fault. I was taken to the ER and immediately told I would need surgery. I didn’t have health insurance at the time and was worried about how I was going to pay for all of these unexpected medical expenses. During my hospitalization my husband contacted the Joye Law Firm. One of the best decisions we ever made! From the very start the truck company, driver, and insurance company involved claimed that even though a part of their vehicle had fallen off and hit me, it was not their fault. They denied any wrong doing and did not feel that they should be in any way responsible for me or my medical costs. It was a fight right from the beginning and not something myself, nor my husband, would have been able to handle on our own. We were faced with every hurdle you could possibly imagine: evidence getting thrown away, records and logs not being made available, doctors stating I was fine despite still suffering a broken bone that nobody thought needed to fixed. Seriously, you name it and it was an issue for us. The Joye Law Firm was there with us every single step of the way! They constantly were looking and fighting for what was in my best interest. Without their help my medical bills would have not been covered and I would be in serious financial distress, I would still be in need of a second surgery (in pain everyday as a result), and a host of issues I’d still be facing; in other words, I’d be in a completely different situation then I am in right now. I know for a fact that it was only with the help of Mr. Joye and his law firm that I was able to get the second surgery I needed, my medical bills got covered, and my case was handled in the manner it should have been. This was definitely not something we could have done on our own and are so thankful we choice Joye to represent us.

I thought that I could deal directly with the insurance company regarding my accident that caused injuries. My brother who is in insurance told me to hire a good lawyer to represent me. This occured after being frustrated with the other persons insurance adjuster. I couldn't have found a better one in Mark Joye. He was kind, personable and offered great advice. He listened to my concerns and answered all my questions. His first concern to get me the medical treatments to help me get better. Which I definitely appreciated. Patience is a virtue and after 3 1/2 years I finally have recieved an amicable resolution. I truly appreciated and am thankful for Mark Joye and his team Alice and Shaun's efforts. I would definitely recommend Joye law firm to anyone that asks.

He was always prompt in answering any questions or concerns I had in a very professional manor. I would highly recommend Mr. Jackson to represent anyone in need of a great Attorney.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of N Charleston, South Carolina?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
