Showed up arrogant and completely unprepared to court. I lost (custody of my son, which would not have happened if he had been prepared!!!) Then he said to appeal was going to cost more than he was legally supposed to be asking! (I used him through Access To Justice) I wouldn't recommend him to anyone!

We have been so well represented by Attorney Andrews that we want to endorse him as one of the very best attorneys in Rapid City. He is very knowledgeable as to the law and the intricacies of court room practice. He has been forthright in communicating with us as clients and practical minded in his approach to problems. His charges have been fair and reasonable. We know whereof we speak from years of experience in the law and with lawyers. ( I am a retired attorney, graduate of Harvard Law School, who practiced law in Boston for many years.)

I hired Attorney Andrews to defend me in a civil litigation case, and an appeals case. Attorney Andrews was kind, compassionate, and understanding. He presented himself very knowledgeable and well rounded in case law in the district courtroom and with the Massachusetts appeals court. He always kept mine, and my families best interest first and foremost. He returned every phone call promptly and answered ever question, which led us to a win and a resolution. Some lawyers can be taught "book smart" however some lawyers don't come down to the personal level of what a person and their family could be going through. Attorney Andrews brings that level to an understanding in such a compassionate way. He has an intense amount of patience, and makes you feel protected from a court system that at times does not do the right thing by innocent people. Attorney Andrews fights was what is right, and if he feels that, you may not be doing the right thing, he presents the law to you so that you can understand and make the right choices for you and your family. My family was successful with Attorney Andrews help. Attorney Andrews actual helped a family that was torn apart from the court system back together. When your involved in any court proceeding it can be a very scary place, and most lawyers won't even talk to you unless your wealthy. Attorney Andrews takes a view of the whole situation and just does the right thing by all. When my family was in court, to have the opposition attorney come up to you and say, "You are very lucky, you have a very good lawyer defending you." that says it all. Attorney Andrews is an attorney that my family would use again, and I would recommend him to anyone who wants to "win" there case. Attorney Andrews also has an incredible amount of common sense and a compassionate side to bring you through it. When your in court you want someone you can trust and who has the tenacity to fight for you and your rights, with Attorney Andrews you get more....please check him out if your in need of an attorney, my family is honored to have been so lucky.

Robin is the attorney you want to hire if you’re looking for someone with great integrity, professionalism in the courtroom and knowledgeable about your case. We had to hire her from another state over the phone as we were limited on time and Robin spent much time learning the facts of our situation and provided a great defense. She is courteous to all involved and is a very kind and compassionate lawyer who cares about helping her clients see justice be served. We are very pleased with our outcome.

After my accident I was at a loss on how to go about filing a claim. From the very first time I met with Dean he put me at ease with his knowledge and personal style. During the following months I came to know Dean as a true professional as well as a really nice guy. With his guidance I learned that I needed to be patient and let the process work. On a personal note, I found out that Dean enjoys exploring the caves in the Black Hills area.

I was in an accident in December of 2012 and was referred to Bob Moore and Associates Mr. Faust took my case. He was patient, courteous, respectful and honest with me from the onset of my case to it's completion. There were several setbacks with others involved in the case but I was always well informed of the progress in each situation. I was put at ease immediately and asked questions as to how I wanted to proceed with the case. I am pleased with the service I received and the outcome of my case. I appreciate the time and effort the whole office put into my case and would recommend their services to anyone who needed a lawyer and team of qualified people to work with them and get the job done.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Rapid City, South Dakota?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
