Cons
1
Potential bias towards maintaining relationships with other lawyers, which may not align with the client's best interests
“She is not here to work for you or for your interests. Be warned. She is weak in court and will more than likely over bill you. Cowards to more experienced lawyers and her interests in maintaining relationships with sed lawyers will take precedence over your well being in family court.”
2
Encourages unnecessary tactics to increase billable hours, such as hiring a private investigator to find infidelity
“I was encouraged to dig up dirt and fight with my ex, I was encouraged to hire an PI through her firm to find infidelity in a no fault state. None of this matters yet as my attorney she highly encouraged it to run up a bill.”

She is not here to work for you or for your interests. Be warned. She is weak in court and will more than likely over bill you. Cowards to more experienced lawyers and her interests in maintaining relationships with sed lawyers will take precedence over your well being in family court. If the opposing attorney is in her circle you most likely will be played. I was encouraged to dig up dirt and fight with my ex, I was encouraged to hire an PI through her firm to find infidelity in a no fault state. None of this matters yet as my attorney she highly encouraged it to run up a bill. She is not to be trusted. You’ve been warned. All these 5 star reviews are most likely fake.

Bethany was incredible to work with for my pre-nuptial agreement. She did not draft the original document but worked with me to inform me of the contents and revise to my liking. She provided recommendations based on 12 years of experience and listened to my concerns and did a great job addressing them. She was very fast to respond to emails and anything requiring a turnaround. She made a last minute urgent change based on a late request. Overall just a pleasure to work with and would use her again.

I was dealing with the struggle of getting one of my son's placed in my custody. Bethany gave me a free consultation and afterwards when I put her on retainer she dove into my case. The case was long and drawn out because of the other party. After a year of long court days, I won custody of my son. I could have never have won the case without Bethany and her expertise. Our family will be eternally grateful to her for all of her work.

One of the most difficult things a lawyer can ever do is to have another lawyer for a client. Bethany Glandorf represented me (a lawyer) in my divorce proceeding, and she did an outstanding job. The best lawsuit of any kind is the one that can be settled without the time, stress, expense, and uncertainty of a trial. Without Bethany's patience, hard work, and expertise, there was no chance of my divorce case settling without a trial. Bethany communicated with me promptly and consistently, answered all my questions, and provided valuable insights and advice on how to achieve my goal of a mutually agreeable divorce settlement and no trial. I am pleased to provide Bethany with my highest possible recommendation.

I consulted with Attorney Nyanda about a problem that I had with a so called mechanic. She was very thorough. She shared the positive and the negative. She made sure what she said I understood.

I was working with another lawyer within the same law group. When I switched to Alyssa, everything became very streamlined and efficient. She does her job well and is succinct with all court matters. Alyssa is very grounded and easy to work with. She is professional and carries herself as such, but is not stuffy or condescending. I would be very happy to work with her again.

Alyssa C. was a great attorney in helping me through my legal matter. I would definitely hire her again if future issues arouse. She heard my case and was able to compile and articulate a solid argument in my favor, that led to the desired and expedient outcome. She was able to walk my through the entire process so I would know what to expect, depending on which avenue the legal matter went. I feel like I can breath again thanks to her services. The organization was great and professional as well.

Alyssa was a great selection for my unique case. My case involved a divorce with a military connection as well as the dissolution of a 30 year marriage while also dealing with a disabled spouse. All these conditions created a delicate situation to handle and Alyssa did so with expert ability while also explaining the process and legal requirements all along the way. I was able to receive my desired result while also being fair and honest with my former spouse. Both of us were satisfied with the final outcome of the non-contested case. The already difficult process was made much less stressful by the professionalism of Alyssa and the Cole law group associates and experts who assisted her. Their fees were reasonable for the work they completed and I would recommend the CLG firm and especially Alyssa to anyone facing the difficult and unfortunate situation of divorce in Tennessee.

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Brentwood, Tennessee?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
