Pros
1
Highly professional and adept at handling legal matters
“Brittany handled my uncontested divorce case very well, I was extremely satisfied with the results. Highly adept, very professional, I definitely recommend Brittany's expertise to anyone seeking counsel.”
2
Strong negotiation and contract drafting skills
“Brittany Kurdziel has represented me in two business acquisitions including a commercial real estate transaction. She drafted and negotiated multiple contracts all while being very professional and punctual.”
3
Effective at navigating complex legal situations
“She really helped me with my contested divorce. The divorce its self dragged on for over a year, but during that time she was very professional. I'd call and ask for advice and she'd get back with me in a timely manner. She helped keep me sane through the entire divorce proceedings such a God's send. I'd highly recommend her.”
4
Dedicated and responsive to client needs
“Brittany was my only contact, I could reach her directly and she would always respond. She definitely helped me out and got my divorce finalized. I would recommend her to anyone.”
5
Adept at handling sensitive legal matters
“Gates Law and I just completed a nearly 2 year long probate case involving over 5 different parties and countless red tape and legal roadblocks. Brittany worked with not only me, but other parties involved and made everything simple and much less complicated so that we could understand and make the best decisions for the family.”
Cons
1
Potential for excessive fees and billing issues
“She told me she charg”
2
Lack of communication and responsiveness
“On that same day I was able to reach an agreement with my ex-wife and her attorney the same day. She didn't care about me in the matter being our only line of communication was text then went to only email. I thought this was unprofessional.”
3
Delays and lack of progress in some cases
“We gave money for filing and for deposit and never saw anything done after 12 months of calling, emailing. She had every excuse under the sun as to why things were post poned and had many family emergencies used as excuses and never followed up as promised over and over again.”
4
Unresolved cases and need to hire new attorneys
“I'm no closer to being divorced and I have to hire another attorney for $1000 to get it done.”
5
Failure to follow through on promises and commitments
“One of the worst experience with a business professional. Full of false promises. Had 8 weeks of no movement on my case, she stated she filed multiple documents on my behalf and had a hearing set. She did not serve my ex on time and nothing was ever filed by her on my behalf.”

Highly recommend working with her! I have worked with Brittany in 4 separate matters regarding my divorce, post-divorce modification and contempt. She is prepared, diligent and passionate about her clients and their cases. I was able to contact her quickly and she was aggressive in her representation.

I recently had the pleasure of working with Kelli on a business dispute that, at times, felt much more emotional than professional to me. From the beginning, Kelli demonstrated not only her legal expertise but also an incredible ability to navigate the emotionally charged aspects of the case. Her professionalism, compassion, and strategic thinking helped guide me through what was an extremely draining process. Kelli was always available when I needed her, keeping me informed and offering clear guidance at every step. She fought for my interests with skill and determination, ensuring the best possible outcome. I truly felt like I had someone in my corner who genuinely cared about both the case and my well-being. If you need an attorney who will not only provide excellent legal representation but also be a steady and supportive ally in tough times, I highly recommend Kelli. She’s everything you want in a lawyer—strong, knowledgeable, and compassionate.

DO NOT FALL INTO THIS TRAP!!!!! I hired Brittany to deal with a custody case for us and for a year she just bled us dry without taking any action. She made a million promises and didn't follow through on any of them. We had to hold her nose to the fire to even get her to schedule depositions after 7 months of being hired and paid, and she didn't even get the correct parties for said depositions. She drug her feet every step of the way, spoke behind our back with opposing counsel without consulting us, and didn't respond for weeks, or even a month at a time to calls, texts and emails about time sensitive matters. When called out on her actions, she was barely apologetic and full of excuses, but did it over and over and over again without remorse. She was an ABSOLUTE NIGHTMARE and is honestly incapable of practicing law. Do not hire her if you care about your case whatsoever. Fired her and planning on taking her to court to get our money back if she doesn't give it back willingly. What a joke.

Mr. Happell has been the best attorney we have ever had. He was kind, understanding and very knowledgeable with our situation. His assistant, Dianne Glasscock was a live saver to me and my husband. She was always available to answer any questions we had. She let me cry on her shoulder and listened. Her support was invaluable. Mr. Happell is blessed to have such a great assistant. They saved us so much money during this process. I would highly recommend this law firm and especially Mr. Perry Happell.

I found Kevin through the yellow pages phone book here in Memphis. Kevin was hired back in 2006 for my brother. He was charged with aggravated robbery which holds up to 30 years imprisonment. Kevin investigated and presented the courts with all the loop holds in the case. My brother was released on 6years of probation.

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Brentwood, Tennessee?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
