When my family found ourselves needing a lawyer to represent us in an unpleasant real estate matter, Jonathan Guthrie was recommended to us by a fellow attorney. Jonathan’s easy, affable manner made a distasteful situation palatable, and his sharp mind and his attention to detail convinced us that we were in good, capable hands. At no point did Jonathan ever overstate his confidence or lead us to believe that lawsuits are easy. He was sober and careful in considering all sides of the case, and he went above and beyond in first unearthing – and then understanding – all the facts that related to our lawsuit. He made absolutely sure that he knew our case as well as we knew it. One of Jonathan’s underestimated skills is his ability to prepare his clients for the steps in a legal case. At no point did he allow us to go into a meeting or a deposition unprepared or not knowing what to expect. Jonathan scheduled time to prep us, explaining the process in terms that non-lawyers would understand, and he went so far as to prepare us for the individual personalities of the lawyers and judges with whom we would be interacting. There are not enough positive things to say about Jonathan Guthrie as a lawyer. I never needed an attorney before. I saw good reviews for Jonathan and decided to go with him. I’m glad I did. From the beginning and throughout the case, Jonathan was intelligent, ethical, thorough, and set reasonable expectations. I chose to stay in communication with him chiefly via e-mail, although he was readily available via phone or office meetings when needed. During our initial meeting he laid out realistic expectations for the case, which was a good thing. The next step was to research similar cases so as not to cause me to spend money taking a case to trial that had no chance. I really appreciated that. After the research hurdle, there were multiple key steps. Involving those key steps, I believe his strategy on how to approach the case was both intelligent and correct. Jonathan was also quite diligent in completing things, being my advocate, and keeping me updated in a timely fashion. I think all of this helped lead to settlement. During settlement negotiation itself, Jonathan again gave good advice--and options--throughout that process. Everything considered, I was very satisfied with the end result. Though I was motivated, it was still tough for me to go to an attorney and build a case. Via his professionalism throughout many months, Jonathan helped make it more palatable.
