Knowledge of planning details was very good. Liked willingness to hold meetings at convenient location. Worked well with Financial Adviser. Listened well to my input. Meetings were comfortable with good explanations on legal language. Thankful that he was recommended to me.

Having moved to the area and needing a new law firm for both our business and our personal legal needs I performed extensive research that just led to being frustrated until I came across Ray Law. Once I spoke to Harry Ray and he explained what he could do to assist us in both endeavors I knew I would be in good hands. Beyond having provided sound legal advice and making short work of legal matters, Harry and every one of the staff, including the other attorneys, are fantastic, decent people. Finding a lawyer to work with is one thing, but finding great people to work with is another. Having been in business for decades and having had teams of attorneys work on legal matters for me over the years, I can say that the relationship I, and we have with Ray Law is a great one, and I would recommend to anyone looking for legal assistance to strongly consider them for representation. I have also had the pleasure of dealing with some of Harry's other family members on other unrelated business matters and the experience is the same. Harry Ray and Ray Law are doing something right!

We have never had to hire a lawyer before, we have now found our place. The Ray Law Firm were quick in their responses, honest in the reality of the situation and what they could do, and helped us do what needed to get do. Thier advice was sound and reasonable. We would use Ray Law Firm for most anything we anticipate in the future and highly recommend them. Give them a call for yourself, you will not be disappointed. They seemed to truly care and want to help us resolve our issue.

Having a very complicated case, I had consulted with more than a few lawyers about my options to apply for a greencard over the years. As soon as we consulted with Mr. Lester, my wife and I knew that he understood our situation and would be able to help us. We promptly hired Mr. Lester to take my case and he has been extremely patient with me and all my questions. He explains everything clearly and doesn't sugarcoat anything. He is patient and extremely thorough to make sure everything is done correctly. Thanks to him clearly laying out my case, my I-485 was approved within 7 months from when Mr. Lester first submitted it. The best compliment that I can give Mr. Lester is that although he was not the first attorney I consulted with, thankfully he was the last!

Lester Law helped me through all the steps along the way. Started working with them back in 2016 to obtain my LPR. Very thankful they walked me through the overwhelming process. After obtaining my Greencard they then helped me with my extension and eventually my Naturalization. The entire process was stressful at times and overwhelming, as a lot of unexpected things happened along the way, but they were always only a phonecall away and super responsive. I never felt like I was left on my own. I highly recommend this firm as they do not treat you as a number, and actually care about you individual needs.

Mr. Marty was a fantastic help to us in Adjusting Status without having to go back to my country for the interview. We did not know that there was a way to file like this until we spoke with him and he describe the PIP for me through my wife who was in the Army before. Every thing was smooth and they are very professional and friendly - like family now to us. I recommend the people of Lester Law to anyone who may need to consult or hire their services.

Peter Murphy , when he took on my case he did not waste time he filed my appeal and went above and beyond for the next year to get all the information needed for the case. On the day of the case he gave the Judge all the information he asked for and he presented my case very professionally and this is why my case was won. I would recommend Peter to anyone who has a SSI disability .

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Chattanooga, Tennessee?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
