So let me start by saying this was by far the easiest event I’ve ever been a part of. My wife and I started talking about me adopting her daughter so we could complete our family of 4. We have been part of each others lives for a while and she’s always referred to me as dad. After my wife had called numerous offices with no answer or call back, we were kind of beat. One day I called 2 firms and got nothing back. Then I called Yates & Wheland. Not only did they answer on the first ring, I had an appointment set before I got off the phone. In less than 2 months we were in the courtroom finalizing the adoption. Best phone call I’ve ever made. They were very upfront with all the information and steps that were taken. We never felt like something was out of place. Everybody involved was very responsive and caring. Fortunately all it took was for the phone call to be answered and we are very thankful they answered.

As a divorced father defending himself against the odds, not only did Charlie and his firm protect my already marginalized parental/custodial rights with my two young children, he extended my involvement with them. My Aunt passed away at 94, leaving me as her Durable Power of Attorney. I did not know what I was in for. I needed an attorney and Alex came highly recommended. I met with him because when I went to sell her home, which had a reverse mortgage, I found out Medicaid had a lien on the house for $48,000 and I would need to bring that amount to closing. I had 5 days' notice of this, and I did NOT have $48,000. He said he would call the Medicaid attorney and get them the paperwork. He came through, they dropped their lien because I was not making any profit on the home, and we closed on the house. He continued to check on me, after the case and made sure I was OK and that we closed. He has a heart for the people he represents.
