The front desk and staff are the worst. Ryan will continue to avoid you. It's sad that this once good law firm is now just another place that feeds off the scraps of great law firms. Soldiers and spouses beware. Get anyone but this law firm to handle your case

They screen calls, the paralegal and front desk clerk are by far the most unprofessional two people I have met. An I used Ryan McFarland personally 2 years ago as my attorney. Unless you're an attorney yourself they try to belittle and speak down to you. After over 2 months of emails and sending paperwork that needs to be signed per a final divorce degree they will string you along and make no attempts to remedy the situation. If you're a woman and love having another woman treat you like a child this is the best place for you to go. If not I wouldn't bother looking one second more into this company for any type of fast legal process.

I fully entrusted Ryan McFarland. He stated to me when I first retained him, “I will see you through this to the end”. That provided me with so much hope and encouragement then. In my experience with this attorney and his office, is more often than not there are a LOT of communication break downs. Being left in the dark not knowing and uncertain of things. I would ask questions and sometimes they would go unanswered. The last communication breakdown resulted in, Ryan McFarland, resigning from my case. This happened without warning, I was lead to believe I was going in for an appointment to discuss the process and start the preparations for the divorce trial with children and domestic abuse involved. To my surprise, I get there, to be turned away. Now, during the holidays having to pay a whole new retainer fee for a new attorney to pick up where someone else left off. I personally, only want someone to represent me that stands true to their word and actually follows through. From my experience, if you’re looking to hire someone that is dedicated, has great communication skills, also has assistants and paralegals that have excellent communication skills and that will actually see you through the end of your case. Ryan McFarland isn’t the attorney to hire.

Ryan McFarland is by far the best attorney I have ever had. I will never consult with any other attorney again! Ryan is compassionate about his clients cases. He goes in with the confidence needed to set your mind at ease so you feel comfortable in court has your case is being heard. He is always there to answer your concerns and sets your mind at ease. He will make sure that the truth of the case is heard and will go above and beyond what most attorneys do in order to get your needs taken care of. My cases was messy and a bit challenging, however, I never doubted Mr. McFarland's abilities!

Ryan McFarland is a compassionate, understanding, patient, determined person and he really goes above and beyond for his clients. He is honest and direct, and fights for what is right! Ryan has helped me with a divorce, alimony, child custody/visitation, child support. My case has been very complex, frustrating and time consuming. I am thankful beyond words for his help, encouragement, guidance and great advice. And I will never be able express how grateful I am, for his help throughout this whole process of me transitioning from a victim to a survivor of domestic abuse. I couldn’t have asked for a better lawyer! Ryan McFarland is hands down one of the best! Thank you so much!

This man is amazing, he fought hard for me to have time with my daughter after her mother dragged it out for a year and caused so much unnecessary drama. He kept me cool and collective and went to bat for me through it all. Trust in his knowledge and his time as lawyer he will truly fight for what is right for you and your family!

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Clarksville, Tennessee?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
