Elizabeth has been my Business Lawyer since our inception in 2007. Elizabeth is a very thorough and competent professional who always has my company's best interest in mind. However, Elizabeth would not hesitate to tell me to curb my actions based on her policies and procedures. I always fell like our company is in good hands. She never misses a scheduled meeting and always takes my calls or returns them in a timely manner. What I especially like about Elizabeth is her ability to remain calm in crisis situations. Elizabeth also help my family in a child custody matter. Although there were many stumbling-blocks, she always keep us informed on the progress. Child custody is a very long and emotional process, Elizabeth was able to make the experience as palatable as possible. Elizabeth is a solid lawyer. I would highly recommend her for Business or Family Law.

We had hired another attorney at a set fee to represent us in a custody case for our grandchildren, upon discovery a partner in the firm had already hired out to another party in the case. I reached out to Ms. McDonald with our circumstances and although her fee was considerably higher she agreed to take our case for the other attorney's fee. I feel this gesture speaks volumes about Ms. McDonald's character. She handled our case with the utmost care and consideration. I feel she represented our case in a impeccably professional manner. Her communication was clear and consise. She always returned phone calls quickly. When people ask me for a recommendation for an attorney, she is without a doubt, the #1 on my list

I consulted with Ms. McDonald after my husband's death and on several occasions on business issues. Each time she listened to me, asked very specific questions and helped me avoid the expensive cost of litigation. Because I took Ms. McDonald's advice, I didn't have to hire an attorney. But if I ever need to hire an attorney, Ms. McDonald is most definitely the attorney I will be hiring.

Luke came to my defense in an aggravated burglary charge, not only was he very responsive he kept my family informed about what was happening now and what was more than likely going to happen while I was incarcerated. On the day of my preliminary hearing he was able to get all my charges dropped without having to spend any more time in jail.Thats exactly what he told me and my family he would do. Luke is trustworthy and reasonably priced and I would reccomend him to anyone in the upper cumberland area who has charges pending.

I've been an over the road truck driver for over 24 years and Mr. Crabtree represented me in a traffic citation case that not only got me terminated from my former employer, but could have possibly ended my trucking career and which of course would have greatly impacted my livelihood. After doing some research online, I discovered Mr. Crabtree's practice and gave him a call. I was immediately given advise by his highly professional office staff in regards to my case, what I needed to do, plus, I was given an appointment time for my phone consultation with Mr. Crabtree. After a few minutes into my consultation, Mr. Crabtree agreed to take my case. As time goes on, luckily, I got another driving job, and Mr. Crabtree's office stayed in contact with me and gave me updates as to the progress that was being made in my case. Mr. Crabtree himself called me the other day while I was on my way to pickup another load with the good news. My case had been dismissed. And the citation has been completely 100% expunged off of my record. I would highly recommend to anyone that's in a similar situation to give the law office of Crabtree and Patterson a call. I recommend them not only for the utmost devotion to there client's best interest, but most importantly, for the unwavering professionalism and dedication that they have given to me in return in representing me in my case. I cannot thank Mr. Crabtree and his highly professional staff enough. The whole staff and Mr. Crabtree himself have went above and beyond all of my expectations. Thank you all

Seth Crabtree and his firm are amazing. They answered any questions I had and walked me through the process with ease. I got in trouble with the local police and was thankful to find Crabtree. He got my charges completely dropped without me having to go to court almost at all. His team was very professional and kept me updated about my case through the entire thing. If you are looking for a great team to work with, I highly recommend Seth Crabtree and his firm.

Ken worked with me on a separation agreement with an independent sales representative. His counsel was clear and I believe helped me to construct a document that made what is sometimes a difficult transition smooth, relatively easy and most importantly no additional legal cost or jeopardy. On other occasions applying to employment law and non-compete language I have found his counsel to be quick and to the point in terms that I could understand and act on

Mr. Willaims was very helpful in sending to the county court paper work/transcript from the Federal Court and wrote a letter stating why this case should not be heard again due to the federal ruling. Shortly thereafter we received a letter from Mr. Willaims that the case was over. After many months of aggrevation, we could now go about our normal lives. We told Mr. Williams what was going on, and he kept us informed through the whole process, and he copied us on everything that was sent to the county court. Our family would recommend Mr. Williams to anyone.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Cookeville, Tennessee?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
