I used this attorney twice. He was extremely slow both times, and did as little as possible both times. He doesn't seem to understand finances and could never understand my case. I'm still trying to clean up what he could have done easily in court.

I had the pleasure of being represented by Mr. Mark Tribble in 2018/2019. He made my experience with the Cookeville court system tolerable and I was able to get the results I needed in order to continue to do what I love. I would definitely recommend him to anyone needing assistance. He is very professional, open and honest throughout and about your whole process. I hope I won't need him again, especially for the type of case I had, but if I do I would definitely allow him and the firm to represent me again. It was a pleasure Mr. Tribble and I hope continued success for you!

I am a practicing lawyer in the Washington DC area. We retained Mr. Tribble to assist our daughter. He was excellent, thorough, fully understood the system, and was ultimately successful with a very difficult and challenging situation. He communicated well each stage of the proceedings. We would recommend him in a heartbeat!

Mr. Tribble was excellent at guiding me though and winning my claim against Child Protective Services when I was falsely accused. He knew exactly how to navigate the civil legal system and the child protective service system when I did not have any idea on how to.

Kelsy has worked so hard for our family! She has guided our every step in this process from termination of parental rights through step-parent adoption. I could not have picked a better person to advocate not only for our family, but most importantly, advocate for the best interests of our children! Kelsy has represented our family multiple times now. I will forever be grateful for Kelsy's expertise and advice and for weathering this storm with us! I will not hesitate to retain Kelsy again should the need ever arise. She is intelligent, hardworking, dedicated, and thorough. If you need a family law attorney, I can't recommend her enough!

I cannot say enough about Kelsy Miller and her legal team. I have had to call on her multiple times over the years to handle complicated circumstances that have arisen with child custody issues. She is professional, courteous, knowledgeable, and she truly cares about the unique situations that her clients face. Her encouragement and tenacity definitely got the best outcome for myself and for my children. I have recommended her to family and friends without hesitation. If you are looking for a family law attorney, look no further. Kelsy Miller is the total package!

We hired Kelsy Miller a year ago to help us through an extremely difficult time. Kelsy and her team comprehensively walked us through every step of the process, answered any questions we had, and always provided an answer in a timely manner. Although our court case took longer than we originally expected, (this was no one person’s fault and actually something she had advised us could happen due to the type of case), Kelsy never wavered with her focus and determination to achieve the best possible outcome for the minor children involved. It is overly apparent that she cares for children and strives to keep their best interest in mind. When it comes to representation in the court system, you do not want to settle for anything less than “absolute best.” Kelsy proved time and time again that we made the right decision in choosing her to help us through this process. She displays exceptional tact, intelligence, and class in and out of the courtroom. Kelsy provided outstanding representation and we will not hesitate to keep her by our side in the future should any other legal needs arise. We would recommend her to anyone seeking fair, honest, superior counsel.

We recently moved from another state and were in need of updating our wills. Joy, updated our wills, and was able to make many recommendations in regards to protecting assets, making sure beneficiaries have been designated, putting land into trusts, and more. She has been doing this for years, she has taught the upcoming lawyers the ropes. If she can't help you, she can point you in the right direction. She is a native Cookeville resident, and knows whose who.

Luke came to my defense in an aggravated burglary charge, not only was he very responsive he kept my family informed about what was happening now and what was more than likely going to happen while I was incarcerated. On the day of my preliminary hearing he was able to get all my charges dropped without having to spend any more time in jail.Thats exactly what he told me and my family he would do. Luke is trustworthy and reasonably priced and I would reccomend him to anyone in the upper cumberland area who has charges pending.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Cookeville, Tennessee?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
