Man, I tell you there are lawyers and then there are LAWYERS. I was in a very dire situation with my divorce and an emotional wreck about to lose my daughter and everything I worked for. Roland not only went above and beyond what I had expected anyone to do for a simple fee. He tells you as it is, gives you homework and makes sure you are straight about what is coming next. He is super knowledgeable, doesn't take any $%&^ from anyone when he knows he is right and it's worth fighting for. He almost dragged me out by my neck at one point to make sure I don't commit to anything not agreeable and not in the best interest for me. I consider Roland a close friend of mine now, since my divorce lasted forever and he was there for me all the way. He got everything I wanted for me and then some. I can whole heartedly say that if you put your trust in him, you are in the BEST hands possible. Would I recommend him to anyone ? ABSOLUTELY

Thank you so much Roland! The professionalism and knowledge of my case took such a stress off my shoulders. I had called a few other attorneys in the area and no one else gave me the attention and willingness to help that his office did! I will 100 hire him again and refer him to anyone in need of THE BEST!

Roland Mumford took our personal injury case and had a settlement in a very short amount of time. He listened to our thoughts, applied his skills to the case, and reached a great settlement that exceeded our expectations. Call Roland Mumford for your personal injury legal needs.

I have worked with Roland Mumford on several cases regarding the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and know him to be a very thorough attorney who fights for his clients to get them a fair settlement with respect to the ADA. Call Roland Mumford if you have been discriminated against as a disabled person.

I contacted this firm seeking clarity regarding the laws on a new technology for the roads called “autocycles”, specifically the ambiguous requirement for these 3 wheel vehicles requiring helmets while driving, which vary by state and county. Roland took the time to research the TCA and discovered that while the vehicles have been given a specific category of motor vehicles that there really is no specific interpretation of the helmet laws which can vary depending on law enforcements’ understanding of a vague and ambiguous law. Autocycles have seat belts, roll bars, roll cages for the sides and are completely street legal – they are no different than that of a convertible or a street legal dune buggy and drivers are not required to have a “motorcycle” endorsement on their driver’s licenses to drive them! It seems we need to get one of our local legislators to sponsor and pass a bill deeming these vehicles as that no different than that belonging to the same class and requirements (and risk) of two wheel vehicles with no safety protections in the event of an accident. Good job, Roland Mumford and thank you for taking the time to assist with trying to clarify something that is still foggy for this up and coming type of recreational road vehicle. I highly recommend this firm for legal counsel – they will genuinely help to solve your legal challenge or answer your questions regarding clarity within the laws of Tennessee. John

A distracted driver hit me. He went right through a red light looking at his phone. I was injured bad. I had to have 2 surgeries on my neck and shoulder. At the time of the wreck I was in my work vehicle so I had a work comp claim and a claim against the driver. Steve and Paige handled everything. I didn’t have to do anything. They were constantly in contact with me. I never had any doubts they were always in my corner and fighting for my best interests. They made sure I knew what was going on for each step of my case. He and Paige went above and beyond after I accepted a settlement offer to work with my health insurance and collectors to reduce my medical bills and put more money back in my pocket. I absolutely recommend the lawyers at Rocky McElhaney Law firm

I used Edwards & Edwards recently and they were more than helpful during my case, which was perhaps the most stressful thing I've ever gone through. They did a great job and kept me informed about the status of my case. Their fee was reasonable as well. If you have to hire an attorney, I would definitely recommend using this firm.

Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Hendersonville, Tennessee?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
