If I had three words to describe John Haines, it would be professional, knowledgeable and blunt. Divorce is always a sticky situation, but John navigated it like it was child's play. He's been doing this for a long time and if you think the retainer is too much to pay, it isn't. He chews gum and shoots from the hip. This does not mean he's cocky. He's just confident and that's what you need in a lawyer. Just listen to him, do what he tells you to do and it will be all over before you know it. He really isn't one of these sleazeball lawyers who is looking to overbill for every e-mail or call. I saw my ex's financials and he got billed 3-5 times a month. I never got a bill until the very end. He's there if you need him, but check your problem at the door to make sure you really need him. Divorce is emotional. He's not Dr. Phil. He's there to get you out of the predicament you're in and if it goes to court, fight for you. I appreciated his demeanor and when you hire him, you will too. The work was exceptional, the price was fair, the stories were hilarious and I'd give him and the boys in the office 5 stars any day of the week. Outstanding work!

Jed represented in my divorce. Despite my best efforts to sabotage his excellent work he was able to achieve a fantastic result. He came highly recommended by another attorney which I had used previously. I would recommend him to anyone needing legal counsel.

I heard about Jed through a family friend who also used him as her divorce attorney. So I figured I would have a consultation with him. After our consultation, I was VERY satisfied and knew that I wanted to hire him. This was back in 2018. He required the retainer, which was expected, and used that retainer towards the expenses. He was very professional, listened to my needs, had my sons best interest in mind, and maintained his integrity throughout my entire case. Not only did he handle my divorce, custody, and parenting plan case, he also handled my personal injury case, got me the most that he could, and knowing full well that he would get his share, so he made sure after giving him what was owed, I still had more than enough to cover costs. I don’t like saying I have an attorney “in my back pocket”, but I enjoy having the relief of knowing I have an attorney or any legal matters. Jed comes HIGHLY recommended by me, and will be the only attorney I use.

Jed was without a doubt, a blessing during a very stressful time. He was honest, forthright and did everything he said he would. He walked me through everything, explained all so that I understood it, stood by my side through out my divorce and treated me like family. I can only say in this review to all, that I would highly recommend him to anyone. But to Jed, thank you my friend!

I spoke with Jedidiah on A possible contract violation by another party we were dealing with. He was respectful, took the time to really listen for the truth and facts and then told me his truth about the matter. This meant he wouldn't be taking our money and making empty promises; knowing it would not be to our advantage! An honest, caring lawyer can be EXTREMELY hard to find but Jedidiah's character changes those rules for his profession! If we ever need an attorney; Jedidiah WILL BE our first choice!!!

Gary Dupler is a great attorney and a fine person. He represented me in an estate case was complicated and drawn out over two and a half years. Gary was very methodical in researching and building the case, and clearly explained his reasoning for everything. When it was time to present the case to a jury, Gary was tremendously better prepared than opposing counsel. After the trial Gary went well beyond anything he was required to do in assisting in the retrieval of property. I never thought I would need the expertise of an attorney or be involved in a legal dispute. Gary was very patient with my naïve questions and my occasional annoyances. I would highly recommend Gary Dupler for your legal needs!!

I hired Mr.Dupler this year for my divorce. He is very knowledgable of the law, and very professinal. He was there if I had questions or concerns. He always answered my calls if he was available. If not, he would return calls promptly. i have never had to hire an attorney for this type of situation before. He done everything he could to make things work and go as smoothly as possible. If I ever need an attorney again, it will be Gary. He did a great job.

Mr Dupler was so helpful in my case and always answered the phone when I called. He did everything in a timely matter and was very pleasant to deal with. I've NEVER herd anything good about any lawyers but that was not true at all in this case. I read reviews on Gary and they very true and would recommend him to any person looking for legal help from a Great Lawyer. THANK YOU SO MUCH !!!

Dave Otten went above and beyond helping me sell my house. We ran into a few issues during the process, but he was extremely helpful every step of the way. I couldn’t have asked for a better agent. He even took care of things for me while I was out of the country! He was very patient with me and helped me navigate the entire process as a first-time seller. I would 100% recommend Dave to anyone looking for a real estate agent!

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Knoxville, Tennessee?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
