Not only did John Haines Law Firm provide the service and quality they promised, they exceeded my expectations. They never left me hanging. They always took the time to explain something that I didn’t understand without making me feel like I was imposing on them. Their expertise was only exceeded by their respectful attitude toward me. They were very considerate of my input and worked to have the best outcome possible for me. I am so appreciative of their hard work on my behalf.

John wrote up a prenup for me. He was very easy to work with, easy to get ahold of, explained everything throughly and had great communication. Pricing was also straightforward and very reasonable. Would highly recommend John for anyone looking for a family lawyer.

Your search is over. Stop reading attorney reviews now and call John. I promise, you won't be sorry. My divorce experience was a long, painful nightmare using two different attorneys. While I recognized the need for extra time due to the pandemic and court closures, my first attorney failed to respond to any type of communication. Phone calls were useless and it took me 5 email attempts to get even one response. My second attorney was more responsive to my communication, however, slow to make any moves. We ended up in court in front of a judge which was a stressful and unnecessary ending to an already irritating process. I swear my divorce could've been completed in 30 days had I have had a supportive team behind me. Fast forward to the need to relocate out of state (like across the country out of state) with my two children and I knew I needed to find better representation. Someone who was truly prepared to fight for me as I knew it wouldn't be easy. John was recommended to me in the middle of my divorce by several people, but at that point it was too late in the case. I knew that he would be the person to turn to when it came time for this next fight because of the successful outcomes of the recommending parties. John did not disappoint. His responses were prompt and full of useful information. He kept me informed of the process, deadlines and delays. He had a plan mapped out for me right away and made sure I understood what I needed to do in order to move the process along. He was familiar with the laws, gave me his expert opinion on what to do legally once I had moved out of state and helped me through a surprisingly quick and painless mediation process. I'm writing this after my cross country move that went off without a hitch truly thanks to John's expertise, professionalism and solid work ethic. I would recommend him 1,000,000 times over to anyone who is looking for an attorney. I honestly don't think you can find anyone better.

There were a lot of hiccups in my divorce from Covid, changes in the divorce and parenting plan, and being across country from my lawyer. John was quick to respond, attentive to my needs, and helped me through. He was very straight forward in my options. I wouldn't go through this again without him.

Gary Dupler is a great attorney and a fine person. He represented me in an estate case was complicated and drawn out over two and a half years. Gary was very methodical in researching and building the case, and clearly explained his reasoning for everything. When it was time to present the case to a jury, Gary was tremendously better prepared than opposing counsel. After the trial Gary went well beyond anything he was required to do in assisting in the retrieval of property. I never thought I would need the expertise of an attorney or be involved in a legal dispute. Gary was very patient with my naïve questions and my occasional annoyances. I would highly recommend Gary Dupler for your legal needs!!

I hired Mr.Dupler this year for my divorce. He is very knowledgable of the law, and very professinal. He was there if I had questions or concerns. He always answered my calls if he was available. If not, he would return calls promptly. i have never had to hire an attorney for this type of situation before. He done everything he could to make things work and go as smoothly as possible. If I ever need an attorney again, it will be Gary. He did a great job.

Mr Dupler was so helpful in my case and always answered the phone when I called. He did everything in a timely matter and was very pleasant to deal with. I've NEVER herd anything good about any lawyers but that was not true at all in this case. I read reviews on Gary and they very true and would recommend him to any person looking for legal help from a Great Lawyer. THANK YOU SO MUCH !!!

Dave Otten went above and beyond helping me sell my house. We ran into a few issues during the process, but he was extremely helpful every step of the way. I couldn’t have asked for a better agent. He even took care of things for me while I was out of the country! He was very patient with me and helped me navigate the entire process as a first-time seller. I would 100% recommend Dave to anyone looking for a real estate agent!

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Knoxville, Tennessee?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
