I went into Jana's office on the first visit feeling nervous, unsure of what I was going to do, and knew NOTHING about the divorce process. I left her office with a plan and a better understanding of how the divorce and child support would work out. I knew without a doubt that she was the one that I needed to help me with my divorce. Throughout the entire divorce process she answered all my questions (and I had ALOT) and explained each step of the process so that I knew exactly what was going on. If I was feeling anxious about a situation that came about...a simple phone call to Jana put my mind at ease. Right from the start I told Jana that the children were the most important to me and she has ALWAYS kept their best interests a priority. I would highly recommend Jana to anyone and everyone that needs a divorce attorney.

Mrs. Lamanna is an amazing divorce attorney. I am disabled with two children. I was faced with loosing health care coverage and the primary source of income in my household. I called her office and scheduled a consult for the next day. I found her office warm, inviting, and friendly. During the consult, Jana thoroughly explained my options, and gave me a few days to consider my decision to file for a divorce. I hired her two days later.......a decision I'll never regret. As a result of Jana's expertise in Tennessee Divorce Law and her commitment to achieving a fair settlement on my behalf, I am now able to provide a stable, loving home for my family. I recommend Jana Davis Lamanna without any reservation!

I was very apprehensive and uninformed about the divorce process. Jana took the time to explain everything to me and kept me informed every step of the way of what became a very lengthy process. I was more than satisfied and highly recommend her as a lawyer.

I started out with another lawyer - I wished i had been with Jana from day one. Jana took over my case, stopped the bleeding and put me in a position that was considerably less expensive than the one i was facing with the first lawyer. Jana makes sure you have all the details necessary to make informed decisions concerning your case. Jana provided realistic expectations throughout the case. She is a wonderful sounding board - but she will tell you based on her experience and the law whether or not your idea is sound. She was able to get this case to settlement where it belonged instead of a costly trial. I wish i had hired her as my first choice. I would highly recommend Jana to anyone in need of legal advice / services for divorce. Even if you are doing an amicable divorce see Jana - she will help make sure you aren't missing information that might come back to bite you later on in the process. She is down to earth, great to work with and in my opinion a wonderful lawyer.

My divorce began in September 2014. When I started the process, I was confused and afraid. I didn’t know the first thing about going through a divorce. I worried that the legal process would be vague. I worried that I would be dragged along with no end in sight. I worried that I would spend thousands of dollars just to end in bankruptcy. I spoke to several lawyers but Janet Lamanna understood my needs the best. She put all my fears to rest. She answered all my questions… … she created a custom strategy based on my situation… … she and explained the process to me in layman’s terms… … she kept me informed every step of the way… … she responded in a very timely manner to the other lawyer’s correspondence. Einstein said… “If you can’t explain it simply, you don’t understand it well enough.” Janet explained abstract concepts with crystal clarity and helped me grasp every part of the process. … I knew how Tennessee calculated Child Support… … I knew about Child visitation, and how it tied in to Child Support… … I knew how to identify the different types of alimony and how they applied to my situation… … I knew the role of retirement plans in a divorce… … I knew the ins and outs of the division of property… … I knew the rules of the divorce complaint, the different ways to serve the divorce, strategies for mediation, what happens at mediation, what happens after mediation, what happens at trial and lots more. I gained knowledge and peace of mind the first time I consulted with Janet; I even left thinking I was a lawyer myself. I recommend her services to anyone wanting a lawyer who: Understands Tennessee divorce Law Understands how to test and apply different scenarios Understands the importance of each step of the process Understands the client and ties it all together in a legal, effective, custom based strategy aimed at a successful outcome.

I hired Attorney Andrew Rankin for my naturalization process due to some complications. He is friendly, sincere, and upfront. He is a man of his word, if he says your file will be lodged on a particular date, he will make it happen. From time to time, he will follow up with you regarding the case and keep you informed. He is Bi-lingual and speaks Spanish. Also, he has a good reputation in the USCIS. It was a pleasant experience. I would highly recommend

He helped me in my time of need and was a godsend. I could not have asked for a better or more perfect attorney for my specific case. His presence was commanding and I felt very safe in a time of much turmoil. I definately felt I had the best attorney for my case. We did not need much contact throughout the case, I just did what he said to do and waited. Everywhere we were supposed to be he arrived on time and did WONDERFUL job! I got the result I needed and I know when he left the room there were 20 people who wished he was their lawyer. I got lucky to find him.

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Memphis, Tennessee?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
