I hired Ms. McCrary to file a divorce for me. She said her retainer was $10k I reluctantly paid it because of what my friends said divorces cost these days. I had never filed for divorce before and I was scared. She made all types of promises to me of what I could expect and I was very relieved to have her on my side at first.
I learned quick that she was just telling me what I wanted to hear to get my money. She burned through the $10k within a month or so, and I had nothing to show for it. She filed the divorce, but other than that, the rest of my retainer was used for "phone calls and emails" to my husband's lawyer. I would not email/call for fear of being charged more and I didn't have an endless amount of money to keep paying.
when I couldn't replenish the $10 retainer that she used up, she fired me as a client and was extremely rude. She told me to go find an attorney that would work for free since that's what I expected her to do. I NEVER expected her to work for free and I ALWAYS pay my debts, it was just my husband controlled all the funds and I promised her that I would sign whatever necessary to guarantee her payment, but she refused and said good luck and basically dismissed me out of her office since she had all my money.
what started as a nightmare process with this attorney, ended up to be a gift, because I found another attorney, who only charged a $1,500 retainer and billed at half Ms. McCrary's rate and she got me everything I wanted plus some!
I'm writing this review to warn anyone who finds themselves in my situation to do your research and just because someone talks a big game and charges a big fee, doesn't necessarily mean they will do a good job.

During consult she promised to do this and that.
( there were 2 things I specifically asked to have changed
From my previous atty and she said she would..)
When I showed her information that
I had collected against my spouse, she said that we
would definitely use this information to help our case.
I paid the retainer of $7500. Ridiculous!
Weeks went by and I heard
absolutely nothing. Then got a call saying we needed
To meet. When I asked her if these two things
Had been changed, she acted like she didn't know
What I was even talking about. She said that nothing can be
changed.... ( I had a friend with me at both of these meetings
And we both questioned her). She denied ever saying
That she would change anything! When we asked
What she thought about the all the evidence
I had given her, she said she hasn't even looked
At it! Done nothing in weeks!
The meeting went downhill
From there. She told us that she had talked to opposing atty
And I I would only get 5 yrs alimony. (Been married almost 30 yrs.)
We hadn't even started negotiations; yet she had
Already decided what I was going to get??.
The Only thing that had been done on my
Case was file for divorce and had it served..( done with
Previous atty)
Then she handed me two packets of papers about
10 pages long - discovery - and said to read these.
Let her know if changes needed to be made.
I was paying her to sit and read over papers?
She should have emailed them
To me ahead of time, then
Discussed any issues...
oh and you don't ever ask a question about
anything she's done or has said... She gets moody
and hostile. I had several questions I wanted to ask
And didn't get an answer to any of them.
When I got my bill, I had a question about one
Thing that was billed. I emailed the question
And got an email saying how dare I "nit pick"
Any charges. It was a full page email that was
Extremely hostile..
I responded back and told her I could no longer
Work with someone like her.
Do not hire this atty. A total nightmare.
Oh and she keeps $2500 of the retainer.
Even if your bill was less... Which mine was.
(Because she had done nothing)
