Hired the attorney after an agrressive sales pitch and how good he was and would fight for custodial rights. That was the only aggressive work done on the case before terminating the relationship. Never followed up on action plans, made errors in communication with opposing counsel that cost me money for additional motions to be filed. He never showed to any hearings but instead sent his partner last minute who wasn't up to speed on the case. Had to terminate and hire a new law firm and invest 10k just getting caught up and unraveling the mess we were left. The Discovery responses Parham Law filed had to be Redrafted by the new firm because the originals by this firm were deemed insufficient. Can't recommend this firm at all for Family Law.

Without going into too much detail, I originally hired at Mr. Parham due to an appeal that that I Originally won In circuit civil court. This eventually resulted in the appeal being dropped, A new order written, and me receiving what I should’ve received in the first place as well as settling a child custody case. I still use Mr. Parham to make sure that things are followed through, and I will continue to use him as “My go lawyer” based on everything that he has been able to do for me. He’s incredibly knowledgeable, and will fight for his clients. Would I use Mr. Parham again? Absolutely… He’s on speed dial.

I have an extreamly complicated case of custody and paternity. My case started in one state and and now it's four! One child in one state and one in another. I'm still leagally married so where he is still my husband he is presumed father to my new baby. The father of my new baby after months has filed custody from his state which promts the other state where the husband is so the it's becomes jurisdiction who has it which state has it. Throw in some domestic violence prior and current no contact orders with default judgments giving custody 365 to a stranger since no DNA was done. I am alone fighting for my kids. I lost everything. I had no idea what to do alot of attorneys did not know what to do even judges it's a mess of epic scale. I was put in contact with Jeremy and went through the whole story as I have many times to other attorneys. Expecting another fail I was surprised to hear him start speaking about it with such confidence there was no I don't know and your in a bad spot there's just too many states and they can't help. He had a plan of where to start he would pull all court records and work on a case. Two days later Jeremy called with a confident solid approach and we have a starting point. Within a couple weeks motions and answers and jurisdiction all of it were flying everywhere. I am a scared mother fighting for my babies safety I have been wrecked Jeremy listened to my story he knew I was a wreck. Jeremy took care of everything and things started making sense he managed to take all of that and put it in order. My baby is still safe thanks to positive outcomes so far. Jeremy is a true talent in law as well as compassionate, understanding and committed to his clients.

Mr. Terral has handled both of my divorces and both were done in a very timely manner. He is very knowledgeable about the law and kept me well informed on each step taken and an approximate time line of completion throughout the process. He was always willing to answer questions to make sure I had a clear understanding of what was going on at all times. He made me feel at ease and confident in his ability. After checking around with other attorneys, I found that Mr. Terral also offers reasonable rates which is definitely a plus. I would highly reccommend Mr. Terral if you are looking for an attorney. I trust him and his work and will definitely be calling him in the future should legal need arise.

  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Murfreesboro, Tennessee?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
