Has been almost 2 years I " hired "Sean Lewis and everytime I called his office they just said they still waiting for some paperwork from immigration. He asked to be paid at front for his service I paid $800 for starting my case and yet till today 2023 I'm still waiting for any response! NO I DO NOT RECOMMEND HIM! in my opinion he is a scammer who only propagates lies to the hispanic audience on the radio. we hispanics work hard for our money and we believe in these bad lawyer scammers. I lost money and time save your money and take it to a good honest lawyer. Shame of him..

I went and paid another consultation (my husband had already paid a consultation fee once) to speak to him about getting another bond hearing (he is detained in Louisiana in a immigration detention facility) my husband called so he could also talk to Sean Lewis. Sean Lewis was yelling at my husband and telling him there was nothing that could be done and he had to go back and forget about ever trying to come back to the United States and forget about his family here. I asked about an I-130 form and he said it would never be approved. He made my husband very upset and made him cry for the words he said. Thankfully we found another lawyer that is more knowledgeable and can help him even though he has to go back to his country for awhile. I would not recommend Sean Lewis. I didn't like him the first time I met him either, he was dressed like he just got out of working as a painter had paint all over his clothes and wouldn't let me or the kids come back in the room to talk or ask questions as well. He may be on the radio and sound like an awesome lawyer but he is not as smart as he sounds.

When I hired Mr. Lewis, he wanted me to pay his fee in advance, so I did. However, I didn’t feel satisfied with his service or the way he treated me as a client. I felt that he was too busy to spend time on my case. I waited for months for him to complete the work that he said he would complete; at the end, I had no choice but to hire and pay for another attorney, who completed the work in one week. In addition all the stress and anxiety I experienced, I ended up wasting a lot of time and money on something that should not have been this expensive. I wouldn’t hire him again and I wouldn’t recommend him to anyone.

Despite being a seemingly busy firm, I felt like a priority and that my time was valued. Justin took the time to understand my situation and tailored their approach to meet my needs. Their personalized attention made a significant difference in comparison to other companies.

Best attorney ever. She took every call and returned every email. Explained everything in a manor in which I could understand. Sat down with me 2 weeks before my social security hearing and went thru medical records with and provided honest feedback. She wrote a brief for the judge the day of my hearing. She was well organized and ready to fight for me. I was made to feel like I was the most important person. Love her spunk and drive along with her big heart. Thanks for the wonderful job you did for me Ann. You will never be forgotten. Susan Dole

I’ve hired Ann Tycer to represent me in my fight for disability benefits after finding many recommendations for her, but even those did not do justice to her professionalism she gracefully applies while making you feel like a beloved family member. She has a way of connecting on a human level, you do not feel like just a client but a person she truly wants to help. She has taken the anxiety out of this difficult venture and that alone places her at 100 stars in my book!

Great firm. They represent me on my will, trusts, business, etc. They have always been good with me. They care. My primary attorney is William Harbison, one of the partners, and he is a great guy. I'm very fortunate to have found him and this firm. Plus, he knows many people in other areas, that he can recommend. I found my accountant through him. I enjoy working with him and others at this firm. They care about their clients.

Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Nashville, Tennessee?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
