For my administrative separation board where I was ultimately retained, and in all matters prior to, Attorney Lawrence Willard displayed an exceptional level of knowledge, professional expertise, and ability to create and execute an effective defense on my behalf. His confidence and tenacity in the face of board members as well as the government prosecutor were nothing short of excellent, he is absolutely the attorney you want by your side if facing any allegations. Doing the research to find this law office and hire Mr. Willard was the best choice I made in my defense. I can recommend his services with absolutely no reservations.

Attorney Lawrence Willard assisted me with a 15-6 investigation that would have negatively impacted my 20+ year career in the Army. His attention to detail, and prompt, thorough action throughout the investigation led to the best possible outcome for me and my family. Lawrence has an encyclopedic knowledge and understanding of the UCMJ and his time as an Army JAG Officer allows him to see and approach cases in a manner that ensure the best possible outcome. His fees are very reasonable for the service and the peace of mind that he provides. I highly recommend his services and encourage anyone that is facing legal troubles in the military to contact him. He should be your first and only call as early as possible in the process.

Attorney Willard went above and beyond! I am truly grateful for his professionalism, care and due-diligence in the handling of my case. He fully exceeded my expectations in helping me through my Board of Inquiry (BOI) process. I was facing separation, having served 18+ years in the Army, and was uncertain if I would truly have the opportunity to finish my career. Attorney Willard took the time to prepare my case, while also taking the time to prepare me for what I should expect throughout the process. His attentiveness, willingness to answer my questions, and patience to listen gave me hope in a time of uncertainty. His efforts resulted in an unsubstantiated finding and retain. My family and I will be forever grateful to both Attorney Willard and the Law Office Matthew Barry! I highly recommend Attorney Willard to any service member who requires a highly skilled, caring and truly professional attorney in their corner.

Attorney Lawrence Willard II helped me in a situation that was seemingly stacked against me. I was wrongly accused of Assault Consummated by Battery of a high ranking spouse at a unit social event off post. I was throughly investigated by CID, and thought my entire military career was over. Ended up only receiving a Letter of Concern, no UCMJ action, complete flag removal and it was all filed locally within my unit with no further action taken to affect my career. It was because of his analysis of facts, understanding of the entire military law process from start to finish which helped protect me from any undue punishment or self-incrimination. Not only was he thorough and organized in each step, he also was professional, empathetic, and completely understanding with him being a seasoned prior service JAG Officer. If you think you might be in a situation where you’ve been informed of an investigation or think you might be, don’t wait, I recommend you call him immediately so you can get ahead of any of the challenges ahead. My career is definitely saved and still managed to receive a top block evaluation during it as well because I was confident in his counsel, mentally prepared for any outcome, maintained my dignity, stayed focused on my job, and held my head up high knowing he had my back and was available at all times. I truly am happy to have called Lawrence and would recommend him to anyone. 10/10 and I’m also not someone who doesn’t do reviews often or sugar coats things. World class lawyer and expert in UCMJ field particularly. Thank you Lawrence!

My Mother choose Elder Law to set up the Family Trust after following Barbara's informative articles in the paper for several years. Once we meet with Barbara and her team, Mom was very sure that was the route we were taking. Mom was still conducting their affairs and it was established fairly quickly and easily. It was easy to administer and as life comes at you rather fast and hard sometimes, within two years we lost both Dad and Mom. There were some intrapersonal family obstacles that we encountered as we were closing but Barbara and her staff, especially my lawyer Adam, stood by me and guided me every step of the way to a peaceful resolution. I understand why Mom chose Elder Law and I would recommend to anyone looking for a family trust situation.

Best attorney ever. She took every call and returned every email. Explained everything in a manor in which I could understand. Sat down with me 2 weeks before my social security hearing and went thru medical records with and provided honest feedback. She wrote a brief for the judge the day of my hearing. She was well organized and ready to fight for me. I was made to feel like I was the most important person. Love her spunk and drive along with her big heart. Thanks for the wonderful job you did for me Ann. You will never be forgotten. Susan Dole

I’ve hired Ann Tycer to represent me in my fight for disability benefits after finding many recommendations for her, but even those did not do justice to her professionalism she gracefully applies while making you feel like a beloved family member. She has a way of connecting on a human level, you do not feel like just a client but a person she truly wants to help. She has taken the anxiety out of this difficult venture and that alone places her at 100 stars in my book!

Great firm. They represent me on my will, trusts, business, etc. They have always been good with me. They care. My primary attorney is William Harbison, one of the partners, and he is a great guy. I'm very fortunate to have found him and this firm. Plus, he knows many people in other areas, that he can recommend. I found my accountant through him. I enjoy working with him and others at this firm. They care about their clients.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Nashville, Tennessee?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
