My husband and I had a blow- out fight and I left to a hotel. I wanted to clear my head. I woke up the next day to a call from Robert (Brandon) telling me my husband wanted an agreed divorce. I told him I just wanted to think things through and he insisted I had hired an attorney whose name will not be provided for privacy reasons. Unfortunately, he had faulty information since I had contacted that attorney but money had never exchanged hands. I was obviously very upset as I love my husband very much but Robert (Brandon) wanted my money and his voice perked up when I explained that I had never hired a lawyer to end my marriage. He explained that if I had not hired [previously discussed attorney] Robert (Brandon) could definitely take my case. This is not common practice for attorneys so I'm assuming times have gotten rough during and after the pandemic. I felt it a little tacky and proceeded to tell him that if he was, in fact, wanting to assist my husband in proceeding an agreed divorce I was going to go for the juggular: my engagement ring with my deceased MIL diamond, the "extra" red Ryder bb gun and all the other sentimental items AKA I was going to make sure this wouldn't be an easy divorce to agree to anyways. My husband and I worked it out and have become closer but to all other couples, please tread lightly as he's not one to try to protect a marriage at all. He'll even attempt to hire your spouse if the price is right. And to think my husband worked for them and Robert (Brandon) simply confirmed that with nary a positive word. My husband is now a lawyer in his own right. But either way, love does indeed always win!

This was hands down the best experience i have had with an attorney in my lifetime which unfortunately is pretty long. I retained him for a criminal case involving one of family members and he made every effort to get us in quickly, outlined all our options and moved very quickly to get into court and get the case in motion. While the case was being adjudicated Brandon and his rock star assistant Alla would always take our calls, respond to emails and arrange meetings when needed without hesitation. I then needed Brandon for an emergency child custody issued and subsequent divorce case in my family. We were in the office reviewing all options the very next day which was extremely important for my stress levels!! We spent even more time on this case and every issue, of which there were many was handled quickly, methodically, compassionately by both Brandon and his great assistant. We were able to protect the child right away and Brandon got everything we wanted/needed. I really can not thank them enough and i have and still do refer them to anyone needing any legal advice.

Brandon represented my husband during a custody situation. We had previously had another attorney that had drawn the case out for almost two years. Brandon handled the case within a few months and an agreement was made. Couldn’t have been happier with the service received. Would absolutely recommend.

Mr.Bennett. Very Professional, Smart, VERY experienced Attorney. However with all great qualities of Attorney, most of all he is a person with huge heart. Just like me You may not see it the second You meet him. But once he knows You fight for right things, once he knows You truly have best intentions for whom/what You fight for in legal battle… once he feels RIGHT fighting for You and You don’t lie to him. He will make mountains move for You. I HIGHLY recommend Mr.Bennett to those who REALLY FIGHT FOR BEST INTEREST of Your loved ones. Thank You Mr. Bennett.

I hired Mr. Bennett to make sure that my children were getting the help that they needed, to modify the parenting plan, and to get child support set appropriately. He checked every box. We got more done this time than in all the six years of the uphill battle. He answered every call or text. He advocated not just for my rights, but for what was best for my kids. God forbid we need an attorney again, he'll be my first call.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Seymour, Tennessee?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
