The Ted Smith Law Group handled my divorce/custody battle now 4.5 years ago. I'm leaving a review now because someone still local to the area asked for my reference on a divorce lawyer and I cringed and thought of my experience with Ted Smith but recommended tracking Shana down! Had I actually met Ted Smith prior to meeting Shana Einhorn, I would not have gone forward with Ted Smith Law Group. Mr. Smith came across very cold and not personable. Shana understood what a difficult time emotionally a divorce can be and did an amazing job at remaining professional but yet caring. I really like that she had my best interest at heart and would tell me when I was being unrealistic in what I was asking for. I trusted her to handle my case and do what was best for all parties involved. She showed up to court hearings on time and remained very professional even when the other parties attorney did not. She responded to phone calls and e-mails in a timely manner and made me feel like I wasn't just a pay check. I called her almost 3 years later and she remembered me and my case! I wouldn't recommend anyone other than her!

I truly appreciate my experience with Shana Einhorn at Ted Smith Law Group. When I needed an attorney immediately, Shana was there for me. She took a case last minute, gave me a same-day consultation, and appeared in court for me with only a day's notice. I have had 1 experience in the past for my divorce, and my attorney then barely explained anything to me. Shana has always been attentive to my case, with immeasurable compassion and consistent reassurance and updates. Although very professional, she has treated me like a friend and has helped me through the toughest time of my life. I will always recommend Shana Einhorn & the Ted Smith Law Group!!

Shana Einhorn and her colleagues at Ted Smith Law Group are all wonderful to work with! I was in a terrible situation with my (now) ex-husband, we had separated and he took my children and would not let me have them back! I met with several attorneys in the Killeen area to find someone to help me and it was all about the money for everyone I met. But Shana was not only the most professional of those I met with, she was extremely sympathetic and appeared to genuinely want to help me and my situation, rather than just take my money to become just another file name in her case load. She helped and guided me every step of the way. Shana and her paralegals were always available when I had questions and she did not disappoint in any way, from getting my kids back to legalizing my divorce in February of this year. I am grateful to Shana and would recommend her services to anyone looking for help with their divorce or family matter!!

My experience with Shana Einhorn at Ted Smith Law Group was like non other. I have used several lawyers in the past for various reasons never was my case given this much attention. During my initial consultation with Shana and her para I learned what could be legally done and what couldn't. The thing that I liked most is she and her para didn't just say no this can't be done; they explained why not. They made sure I had a clear understanding. During my months in court not only did she handle my case professionally and was very knowledgeable she was very attentive to my needs and concerns as her client. She treated me like a person and not just another client. If you want a knowledegeable lawyer and want results go see SHANA EINHORN at Ted Smith Law Group.

I often hear about negative stories when dealing with some Attorneys and very rare do we take the time to recommend those who are passionate about their craft and exceed expectations. Attorney Steven Fuller is a true example of an Attorney who exceeded my expectations. He is undoubtedly one of the very few passionate, professional and hardworking attorney in the law practice. He candidly and honestly reviewed my case thoroughly with me, while simulaneously applying Texas State Law to my case. Prior to my case he personally responded to my email and my concerns. While at the County Court he promptly called me from his personal cell to ensure that I agreed with the Judge's decision or if necessary appeal the results of the court findings. It was so refreshing to know that he truly represented someone who was hurting and had gave up on the legal system. He got my Child Support payments reduced and negotiated or agreed to the fact that I should not pay any arrears in Child Support. If anyone have had a bad experience with others in this craft please do not hesitate to call Attorney Stephen Fuller of Miller and Pearson Law Firm. He's not only a world class professional attorney, he is also an active member of our military forces/veteran and truly understands our military and their rights. Bottom line is that if you need an Attorney for Child Support or any other military Matters, please do not hesitate to contact Attorney Stephen Fuller at Miller and Pearson law firm. I would also remiss if I did not tell you that I had initially searched for other attorneys in the area to include using my Legal Shield membership. None of them came close to meeting my financial needs or cost effeciency like Miller and Pearson's law firm. The response I got were very high and all driven by an inital consultation or an office visit. Miller and Pearson Law firm attorneys will talk to you, get the facts and then tell you if they can handle your case without charging you and getting a negative or unfavorable answer. They work together and care just as exemplified by Attorney Fuller and Attorney Streltsov. Incredibly amazing team and awesome job!

Steve is a very intelligent, sharp, quick witted, compassionate attorney. We worked with Steve for something that wasn't exactly in his usual realm of law but fit the best with him because of his knowledge of both criminal and medical law. We had a lot of questions and he did a thorough job of answering each one. He explained how case law and criminal law related to us and what we could expect. He did a very good job of ensuring we fully understood everything and I felt confident in the knowledge I gained from him. I truly hope we don't need his representation in court, but if we do I feel assured he would apply himself fully to getting the desired outcome.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Belton, Texas?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
