Wendy Represented me well. My Ex kept taking me to court, and I think after having Wendy represent me, she put a stop to that. I have heard that Wendy is the best in Brazos county, and I wouldn't disagree.

I have unfortunately been in family court too many times, but Wendy Wood is by far the best, most prepared, smart board certified family lawyer I have ever experienced, and one whom I can say earned EVERY dollar. If you want the best you are going to pay for it. In Wendy's case it is completely worth it. Her legal assistant Alanna is brilliant as well, and I would recommend her to anyone who can afford and wants the best. Many good family lawyer charge a lot. Wendy is great! As a father I was perfectly represented, and can say in every arduous step of the way we won, won, and won.

Wendy did an amazing job taking the time to explain the law to me, and she also showed great compassion for my situation. She was sincere, honest, and above all the consummate advocate for me to get the best possible outcome of a bad situation. I can't speak highly enough of her. I found her online through reading reviews like these, and they were all completely true--she's THE best.

Due to poor planning and procrastination on my part, I found myself in a pickle planning a wedding yet having not finalized the divorce from a previous (and hasty) marriage. I contacted Wendy Wood and a couple other firms and she responded when others didn't. Wendy Wood and her staff handled all the paperwork with the speed and efficiency as the timeline required. Everything was finished in time for my big day. She and her staff are pleasant and kind and professional. Her knowledge of family law and good relationships in the local community are outstanding. I can't begin to describe how grateful I am to them. I highly recommend her services.

Wendy IS amazing. I have had to use her twice already, and i am sure I will have to use her again...not because she didn't do her job, but because my Ex-husband is a real peice of work. Wendy has been a blessing in my life more than once. The first time was last minute and she took my case, I literally had a weekend to find her. My mom actually found her while on her way to Texas from Califorina, loved her profile and we were more than happy when she accepted my case. She suprised me and my Ex husband with how prepared she was. He tried to accuse me of child abuse and was suprised when the CPS case worker who interviewed us came in to testify on my behalf. We didn't even go to court, I never saw a judge..yes Wendy is that good. When I needed an attorney again there was no question who to call. And even though she wasn't accepting any new clients, she remembered me, my kids, and my ex and how he was (and still is..) and she took me on. I am beyond pleased with everything Wendy and her team have done. Wendy made sure that I got what I wanted and that my ex was not pushing me around. I hate that I will have to go back to court again in the future, but I am glad that I know I will have Wendy on my side!!! Since I last saw Wendy I haven't been able to stop smiling.

I reached out to Mr. Maldonado about a possible medical malpractice issue. He took time to listen to me and appeared emphathetic during the entire call. He stated that I might have a case but even if I did it would be a steep mountain to climb. He then went on to explain laws in Texas called tort reform and its effect on my possible case. Finally, he said candidly that he knows lawyers who are more expertised in this area than he is and that could better help me decide what to do. I really appreciated his time and honesty about the whole situation. Although I didn't end up hiring him, I believe Mr. Maldonado is a solid and good lawyer.

As an entrepreneur, I had been looking to take my business to the next level. I contacted Mr. Maldonado to discuss the legal services he could perform to help grow my services. From the initial consultation with Mr. Maldonado, I knew that he was the attorney that could help grow my business venture. Mr. Maldonado discussed with me the different types of business entities, pros and cons of each, permits and licenses that would be required, in addition to addressing insurance concerns. After discussion, I hired Mr. Maldonado to establish my business entity and he was efficient, effective and professional throughout our business relationship. I am completely satisfied with Mr. Maldonado’s legal services and recommend him to any business owner looking for reputable legal service.

  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Bryan, Texas?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
