Worst advice ever received from a lawyer. Filed things in court that cost me custody and more importantly a healthy relationship with my children. If that is what you are looking for, hire him. If not, RUN!

I answered "no" regarding whether I'd recommend this lawyer, but I wish there had been a "maybe" option. You might find his jocular, energized manner a good "match" for you, but I wanted more focus on my matter -- which was quite serious to me. I've heard very good things about him, so perhaps we really were just a "mismatch." At one point, Mr. West did not get back to me during the time period he stated he would. I called his office and asked for a call back, and he then got back to me (with apologies) a day or two later. This might be quite typical for busy lawyers, but it is difficult to wait when an important matter is "on the line." Again, Mr. West has a good reputation, and he might work well for you. His personality was just too "big" for me.

I was referred to The Law Office of Randy Michel by a friend and colleague, and I could not be more satisfied with my experience with the whole team. Randy is not only incredibly knowledgeable and professional - he is also kind, supportive, and attentive. He always took the time to answer my questions and was amazing at explaining complicated areas of my case in a way that helped me to feel informed and empowered. I will forever be indebted to Randy and his team for helping me through a difficult situation, and I know that without them, I would not have the resolution I have today.

Randy represented me in a collaborative divorce case. He was professionally solid and skilled in dealing with my ex-husband’s superior attitude during the meetings. Randy was thoroughly prepared for every issue in every meeting. It was clear that he has a great deal of experience with divorce cases. He made sure that I completely and rationally considered all aspects of my options at each turning point as well as when it was time to make compromises and get the deal done.

Randy Michel and his paralegal, Andrea, are both amazing people! I cannot praise either one of them enough. Randy and Andrea were an absolute pleasure to work with. With Randy by my side, I was able to get through a complex divorce/custody battle and achieve the outcome I desired. Randy is very dependable attorney, knows the law well, and his attitude is truly remarkable! Randy treated me with the utmost respect, and I would highly recommend his services to anyone going through a divorce or custody battle . I won't miss the divorce process, but I will miss working with Randy and Andrea!

I was injured in an oil field accident that was really horrible and also not my fault.. The big oil Companies tried to bully me out of a lawsuit. But with Waltman and Grisham we fought back and won! Seriously, I cannot stress enough how great Robert Waltman is!!! Hands down the best lawyer in the great state of Texas. A true bulldog in the courtroom that will fight for you! With Robert Waltman, not only did we win our case, he changed my life! And still checks in on me after the case was over. He’s not your normal lawyers, he’s a guy who cares about you and your family. What you’re going through and will make sure you get what you deserve. Trust me I have ‘millions’ of reasons why this is the premier attorney group of the entire USA! I wouldn’t have won my case without Mr. Waltman. He stays on top of everything and makes sure you’re in good hands from the beginning. Again, my life is truly blessed because of Waltman and Grisham. This is the lawyer you deserve and the very lawyer the others fear! I trusted the rest of my life with Robert. And I’m so glad I did!

I have worked with Robert Waltman and Lynn Grisham for over twenty years. They are one of the best personal injury firms in the state. Robert and Lynn take on serious personal injury cases. They care about their clients and help them through what can be a lengthy and arduous process. They have taken on some of the largest corporations and insurance companies in this country and won hundreds of millions in settlements for their clients. There are alot of lawyers out there I would recommend them to anyone without hesitation.

Professional staff, clean office, and excellent customer service was just the beginning. After speaking with Lynn Grisham and discussing our options, I knew my case was in good hands. Lynn was upfront about everything and gave me his opinions on the case. He answered all of my emails personally and promptly which kept me relaxed throughout a stressful time. Lynn and Donna worked tirelessly on my case up till the end and we got the best possible outcome. Thank you to everyone at Waltman and Grisham. They have my highest recommendation.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of College Station, Texas?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
