Honestly helped me at such a low point in my life. Very straight forward and got everything taken care of. I refer John to everyone I know who needs legal help because I know he not only is very capable but is extremely trustworthy. Will continue to use him and his firm till the end.

Jill and John know exactly how to move through the divorce. I had my consultation and learned exactly what I needed to know to move forward. My wife and I came to terms and then Jill wrote up the final draft and filed the divorce. Every step of the way was done in a professional manner. When it comes to family law, you can’t go wrong with this firm.

If you are needing an attorney look no further than Jill Setzer. Organized, prepared, keeps you in the loop, makes sure you understand what is happening at any given moment, makes sure things are done correctly. Knowing I had a great attorney gave me piece of mind and took all the stress out. I could not say enough about how she handles everything. Simply outstanding. 10/10. You can not go wrong by having her as your attorney.

Well I can say this when I came to this lawyer he was actually a referral from a coworker. It was the first experience I had with child custody and it was very scary. Yes I lost my kids to one of my mistakes however I only had one mediation right at the beginning and then pretty much had to take only the bare minimum for my mistake and yet setzer did not try and fight hard for me cause he basically said it was my fault and you are going to have to take what you can get in his words. Then I did exactly what they wanted to do and after 5 minths and pressure on setzer to fight nack for another mediations which never happened and 1 year later he wanted to bank on the other counsel to not file on that day and hopefully be dismissed. It is not what happened they filed the mediations court order 1 yr later and no fight from setzer for me at all.clean tests and following everything the that order I still only had my kids 2 days a week. Mind you I made a mistake but my attorney was more worried about money than fighting for me and my kids.6700$ in lawyer fees and one court appearance. The one I went to but the other lawyer said he never got setzer email. So needless to say I fired him cause he was all for a man's world to help and not women or me. I' found a much better lawyer but because of setzer not help or really did not work to help what was best for me. My lawyer is still cleaning his mess up cause his court order just now went in to the AG and after finally getting my kids father to get my kids for me . My new lawyer who really looked at my case and new I was dealing with a father who was all about money. Because of setzer lack there of looking out for me it has cost me 5k just to clean up his mess and I had to pay for and extra $1000 so they will take out the right amount from child support they are going off what I made 2 years ago cause setzer did not file it on time, from setzer court orders . This was him counting on a dismissal that he thought we would get. I would never recommend him again or to anyone. I pray that he understands this took me 2 and half years to pray on doing a review because I don't think there helpful. I just pray this does not happen to anyone else especially a single mom who does not make a 6 figure yearly. I have been using all my kids savings to try and fight to get them back. parent's will give all they got to fight for there kids just do your research and really take the time before you pick a lawyer when it comes to your children. I pray that setzer truly learns from this and know that sometimes it's worth to help the people that really need you no matter what they did. Attorneys are the last line of defense and we need them.

I've used David on several occasions, primarily to handle an injury lawsuit which turned out to be very successful, and later to set up my will, power of attorney, living will, and several other legal documents that were required to manage my estate. He has always acted and performed in a professional and helpful manner and exceeded my expectations in handling my legal work. I would recommend him highly, especially in light of my experience with a couple of attorneys in years past that didn't turn out satisfactorily..

Megan did a terrific job walking me thru how best to purchase real estate investment property I intend to lease using an LLC, allowing me to provide protection for my family's other personal assets. She takes the time to listen to your concerns and makes sure you're comfortable with the plan before proceeding. A very thorough detailed attorney. Money well spent!

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Colleyville, Texas?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
