I have come across many lawyers in my field professionally across the top five markets in the US and Kerri is easily, hands down one of the BEST LAWYERS I'VE EVER MET. And I am a very discerning Type A personality with high standards. I am rarely impressed and frequently let down, but I cannot stress enough how amazing not only of a person Kerri is personally but professionally. Kerri and her Amazing Legal Assistants, Mylea & Tracy, and her top ranked Private Investigator Eddie, worked relentlessly and expeditiously on my case and kept me informed of any updates and need to know information every step of the way. My case was a rare criminal case that involved a local town employee that stalked me for years with no repercussions or aid to me from local enforcement due to his connections to local elected government officials and friendships with law enforcement. I was essentially on my own for years and went through several lawyers to no avail. UNTIL I met Kerri Anderson Donica and her superstar team of angelic warriors. Mylea, Kerri's Assistant-was a consummate professional that was kind, magical, phenomenal and more than I prayed for. She was always on top of the ball and was able to navigate through the massive encyclopedia of legal documents that were in my file effortlessly and trust me, that was a harrowing, overwhelming task for everyone in the past that dealt with my case, no sweat for Mylea. What a godsend she was in aiding Kerri with the assistance needed with the documentation needed along what was a nightmare for anyone to have to get through. She never complained, flinched or made it seem like it was difficult. She is phenomenal, in and out of the legal field. I can't thank her enough. Kerri Anderson Donica is that rare breed of lawyer that all of her colleague's respect and opposition fears. A lot of lawyers may have one or the other but rarely both. She is always pivoting at all times in strategy and counteracts damaging attacks and rebukes lies and has the intuitive and legal bible of knowledge memorized to be able to get to the facts and present them to the jury in a masterful way. Kerri made a last minute and powerful decision to bring on her Private Investigator, Eddie-was also a Godsend. He's a true master at swiftly getting through a massive amount of information and spotting lies in a Where's Waldo compilation of videos, statements, and legal documents. There was a previous Private Investigator provided by former lawyers that seemed to do a thorough job at first glance at his report, but being that I knew everything that happened to me, I knew all the inaccuracies in previous PI's final report. Eddie dismantled and spotted all the inaccuracies and updated Kerri with top of line, eagle eye information that really aided in what was needed in visual evidence to be seen by jury. Kerri masterfully presented Opening/Closing arguments by pointing out what was missed by all previous lawyers on my case. I was told by many others and knew just from past experience, that if Kerri could not win this case, noone could. She really never backed down at any point and had my back like only a mother could. Her cross examination of witnesses was an absolute Master Class. I could not have won this case without Kerri Anderson Donica and her LEGENDARY TEAM of experts. She truly is The Experience You Need, The Care You Deserve! Thank You will never be enough and is a massive understatement. Do not hesitate to contact her for your legal matters. She is the best and top ranked for a reason. She and her team NEVER let or thousands of people throughout her career down!

We hired Kerri regarding a criminal matter. She jumped in, treated my wife and I great, and went over all the issues and possible outcomes with us. I was amazed that everything she said turned out to be correct and the case came out just like she said it would. My life has been completely turned around and I think I have her to thank.

Truly the best experience. She cared about me and about my kids and wasn't afraid to stand up for me. Her staff is excellent. She made what have been a terrible divorce bearable. I am forever grateful for her professionalism, knowledge and courtroom skills. Be best by far in the area and everyone knows it.

Sarah listened to my problem and offered several creative solutions. She was patient and allowed me to make decisions and then represented me through the process. She was diplomatic and did not back down from the other lawyer when pressed.

Ok I just read the previous review titled "Don't Fall for It" and it's completely false. Sarah is an amazing lawyer who deeply cares about all her clients and who's law firm is client-centered and focuses on all aspects of your case. As her client, I was provided with frequent updates about my case and always treated with kindness and respect. Sarah is honest with you about your case, and sometimes that's hard to deal with, especially in family law matters. But Sarah knows she has to "tell you like it is" so you are prepared to deal with the emotional aspects of your case. Sarah and her staff worked hard to ensure that I was well taken care of legally and emotionally by providing me with legal counseling and referring me and my children to a family therapist to handle the emotional roller coaster that a family law case can be. I know some people might get angry because they lose their case, so they blame their lawyer and write a bad review filled with lies and false allegations. That's not fair, especially when you have a lawyer as compassionate and professional as Sarah Keathley. She is the best in the business if you want a lawyer who genuinely cares about her clients and the outcome of her cases. Sarah has over 20 years experience helping people such as myself with their legal issues, and I can say without a doubt that she saved my life and the lives of my children. Thank God there are attorneys like Sarah Keathley; too bad there's not more of them around.

What Questions Should I Ask Before Hiring a Lawyer?

Hiring the right lawyer is crucial for the success of your case. Here are some important questions to ask during your initial consultation:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Corsicana, Texas?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
