Rex kept me out of prison for the 4th DWI. Kept my job, along with being able to care for my loved ones. Rex and Liz were very understanding, with Rex NOT stopping until given the best results. Please do not fall for DWIGUY or DWIGAL websites, seeing most of those sites understand DWI cases can be a gold mine. Rex is a true professional that will explain in english the best plan. Listen and follow his steps!! Thank You Rex for allowing me to put my life back together. I have been sober for some time now, and very thankful to aquire the help needed to do so.

Rex stepped in on a Organized crime case that I received 10 years probation on 10 years ago. My Atty had retired and I needed help. I had $50000 in unpaid restitution, unpaid restitution is a violation even with the fact that I paid in over $35000 in 10 years. The fee I was charged by Rex was reasonable , he allowed me to split the payments and Liz was also super helpful and easy to work with. Rex could had tried to barter or negotiate to get me a smaller amount owed or an extension so I could finish paying the restitution but he didn't do that he actually went back into my case files and found I didn't owe the amount I was assessed I was released from my probation and owed $0.00. Thanks for everything Rex.

Reasonably priced & got the charges dropped by the judge. Used tactics & strategies that would only be known by an experienced lawyer. He had great knowledge of the legal system & the players involved in determining your fate. He is worth the time of a consultation before making any decision.

Specifics: Already on probation for felony DWI 3rd. (High percentage of mandatory revocation) Had an additional DWI in a different county (DWI 3RD or more – Prison almost certainly) If you have a loved one that faces DWI charges I would highly recommend Rex Gunter with Shook Gunter & Wirskye law firm. Rex was very straight with me on what could happen as I knew the severity of what I was up against due to my actions. After talking with Rex, I was given what he advised to do for the next steps in order to help remedy an already hopeless situation.. The vital steps Rex introduced has kept myself out of confinement to continue my job and take care of my loved ones. I could never thank Mr. Gunter enough for his direction also to have treatment for myself of a devastating disease that takes lives each day untreated. There are too many methods that I was given to pen down as that will have to be done on an individual basis that may differ from my circumstances. I can say one item: Follow EXACTLY Rex’s directions as the routes I was given have had a tremendous impact on both cases I partook in. Points: 1.) Well-seasoned Attorney that actually CARES about his clients that do the right items. In my case, Rex will not stop until he obtains the best results that ensured I was heard and treated fairly. 2.) Rex is well known. When mentioning who was my attorney I heard how blessed I am to have Rex in my corner. The latter included those from opposing sides to fellow colleagues that I met through my case being set to ‘PASS’. 3.) Relationships with Attorneys and Judges: While waiting in court, I noticed the amount of respect from both Judges and fellow attorneys he came across that I realize comes from being consistent and authentic. 4.) The foundation that was set for my cases comes from Rex’s seasoned knowledge along with reputation he has made within the industry. I hired Rex from start as it was critical to have a lawyer that had the latter to give me a chance to not be incarcerated . 5.) Most important, Rex knows both the Dallas DWI Court and how the Denton DWI court works in order to have those with illness obtain help that jail wound not offer in my situation. I am extremely grateful to attend a program that has changed my way of life with being now of service to help others. 6.) Fortunately, my probation was not revoked due to following Rex’s advice on the next steps to seek aid and most importantly bettering myself in the process. I was extremely blessed to have Rex’s capability when the day came to listen and follow the advice given to me. The above being said, from my experience I would highly recommend Rex before seeking others when the loss of loved ones, career, home, and items that cannot be valued are on the line. I hope the above will help any person that lacked hope as I did to a state of peace knowing I saved some leg work when choosing a person to represent a loved one or self.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Dallas, Texas?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
