After being an active cyclist for close to 30 years it finally happened to me. I was struck by an automobile, by a driver with no insurance who had run a stop sign. I was fortunate that my injuries were not worse, very lucky. I was familiar with attorney Bill Shirer after racing in the Texas State road race a few years ago, I'd actually kept his card and literature in case I needed representation. Bill was always quick to respond to my calls, emails or texts normally within 10 minutes, that was impressive. I was always able to speak directly with my attorney in regards to my case, not an assistant or paralegal it was always with Mr. Shirer. My case took awhile to get settled however Bill Shirer got the job done and I highly recommend him as legal representation especially for cycling related accidents. There is no way I can thank Bill Shirer enough for his excellent representation, but I hope that anyone who finds themselves in a similar position to me in the future will read these words and make the decision to give him a call. I hired Mr. Shirer to negotiate a claim against the United States Postal Service. A USPS driver pulled his truck out of a side street and into my cycling group's line of travel. Two of us collided with the truck, our bicycles were totaled and I incurred significant injury that required a hospital stay and rehabilitation. The USPS is "self-insured" and has their own rules regarding liability claims. Mr. Shirer not only successfully navigated the USPS system but also negotiated with my health insurance company to reduce their reimbursement and lobbied my auto insurance carrier to pay the Personal Injury Protection that I was due. His knowledge and efforts resulted in the very satisfactory compensation of my claim. Furthermore, had I wanted to, Mr. Shirer would have had no problem taking the USPS to court.

Until my bicycle accident I had no idea how complicated and stressful it could be just to get the urgent medical care I needed . The day after my injury (after bring released from the ER) I had severe chest pains and breathing difficulty . I called my doctors office , where I have been a patient for over 30 yrs , but was told they could not see me as a third party insurance was involved. I was furious , devastated and confused , I knew at that point I needed help . I called Bill Shirer , an attorney who has a lot of experience with cycling accidents and injuries and in fact is a serious bike racer himself . I had met him on a previous occassion at a race so had high expectations . Mr Shirer put my wife and I at ease on our first appointment . He listened attentatively to my recollection of the accident and outlined very clearly what we needed to do . During the following months Mr Shirer kept me informed at each step and his staff were always supportive and courteous . I was helped greatly by his suggestions for finding excellent physicians and consequently received the care and diagnostic expertise I needed to begin the process of recovery . Mr Shirer releived much of the stress of dealing with the cumbersome and complex insurance negotiations and allowed me to focus on recovery. I am exceedingly grateful to Bill for handling and ultimately settling my case and would recommend his services to anyone in need of legal help following an injury accident , and he is the go to guy if you happen to be a cyclist . I would be remiss if I did not say that , after some badgering with my own Physicians “ service “ that his office did call me back that same day and addressed my initial concerns , good folks almost always do the right thing ,at least I like to think so.

Bill and his staff are first class. They were always there to answer questions for me whenever I needed them. My wife dealt with another attorney for an accident she was involved and they the were awful to deal with. I wished we would have gone with Bill on that accident too.

Before you talk to the insurance company, talk to Bill and his team, they know how to assemble the facts and keep the record straight so the insurance company can't weasel out of their obligations. The insurance companies try to minimize the amount they pay on claims and know how to get you to say the wrong things.
