When you're being charged with any crime, it is something that needs to be taken very seriously.  Selecting the right attorney to defend your reputation, freedom and rights is the most important decision you will make in the situation.  I'm so very glad I made the decision to select Hernandez and Baggett.  They had excellent communication and were very responsive to answer all my questions from start to finish.  They took the allegations against me very seriously and they put together an amazing defense for my trial, which showcased credibility flaws in all the witnesses who were testifying against me.  The background checks they pulled and how they used that information to raise doubts in the courtroom, it was on the level Perry Mason style detective work and even better.  Extremely thoughtful,  strategic,  and well played!  I am so impressed with how they handled my case every step of the way.  The prosecution left ashamed and embarrassed with the attention they had brought onto themselves to even bring this case to trial.  I can't speak highly enough about Robert Hernandez and Shea Baggett.  There is no case they couldn't handle, and I'd trust them with absolutely anything.

Robert was able to negotiate a lesser charge of highway obstruction. My BACs were high at almost 15%. I interviewed Dallas's top lawyers and most were very bleak in their outlook. Another top lawyer's sole strategy was just to negotiate my jail time. Robert explored every option thoroughly on the other hand. Robert does not rush working the case details with you and takes the time to explain everything thoroughly. This is something I really appreciated, and is hard to find in a lawyer. Overall, Robert is the kind of lawyer you want in your corner, is someone that will fight for you, and I give him my highest recommendation.

I hired Robert&Baggett to represent me in DWI case that I found myself in January 2016. Robert told me the challenges that were ahead of me and since am Truck driver (CDL) my job depends on my driving licence I was in a tight situation since my blood analysis was at 0.17. My licence was to be suspended and immediately Robert asked for a hearing with DPS and we won my licence wasn't suspended. We embarked on the main case and Robert and Baggett did a great job my case was heard by jury in april 17&18 2017 and I couldn't believe my ears when the jury came back with a verdict of not guilty. I highly recommend this two attorneys to any one facing DWI they know their stuff just too well. I Will always be grateful for fighting for me

Robert is just amazing! I hired him because I got my first dwi after I had hired a different lawyer before him who did absolutely nothing with my case but have me waiting. Robert however took over my case. I was still not sure if I could trust him because I had a bad experience with the lawyer before but I knew I just had to give it a shot and hope this could be off my record so it wouldn't affect my career plans . Robert was there for me through the whole process and always upfront and honest. When it was time for trial I can honestly say he did so great that I was found NOT guilty and my dwi was off my record. I don't know how to thank this man for what he's done and his generosity. After the court I just couldn't help but cry and hug me because this was something that had been weightin on me for a while and I just wanted to be done with this and Robert did just that. Thank you so much Robert -DS

Robert is absolutely a amazing lawyer, I never thought I was going to get my case dismissed but thanks to Robert he fought for me and made it possible. I was 19 when I the incident happened. Robert looked for enough evidence so I couldn't be found guilty. I totally recommend this lawyer he knows what he is doing. You would not have to worry about anything over your case he will take care of you. 100% reliable lawyer

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Dallas, Texas?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
