I found Verdin Law firm by way of a recommendation from an attorney who is a personal friend and a person I have a high degree of trust in. He did not steer me wrong. I found the entire team at Verdin to be very professional and focused on meeting the needs of their clients. In particular Vanessa Evanoff who was our contact did a great job. I could not have asked for a more professional and efficient person to work with. The work she did on the visa request for my son's wife was done in a timely manner and she was always responded quickly to any questions we had. Her customer service attitude also made her a pleasure to work with. I highly recommend Verdin Law.

Mr. Verdin is very professional, understands what he is doing and very knowledgeable. we were referred by a friend to him when we wanted to apply for a family based green card. We received the green card within less than a year, we had our interview in 4 months. He is a very professional lawyer and too considerate.

Very good experience, I highly recommend them. Monica Navarez provided great guidance and support to us through our application. She was quick to respond via email, available over the phone when needed, and completed the paperwork in a timely manner. She is straightforward and honest in answering questions, we felt supported throughout the process, and our case got approved in less than a year. We are incredibly grateful for all the work they've done.

June 11, 2022 I hired Attorney Verdin and his firm to process my citizenship application when I started my research several years ago. One review that caught my attention and helped in making my decision, “In the beginning Mr. Verdin was my attorney and at the end after helping me through many obstacles, he became my best friend.” I felt at that moment that he would be the right attorney to process my case even though I feel that I do not have a complicated case. As the hard working immigrants, we know that citizenship and green cards processing and other immigration related tasks can be very stressful, exhausting black and white process if the applications are not filed in correctly along with submitting the correct set of supporting documents. Mr. Verdin and his office did not let me down. For unexpected family and other life changing events, I had to delay and delay my citizenship application process many times. Mr. Verdin, his attorneys and his legal assistants have been extremely cordial and patient with me over the years. After a highly contested divorce, I almost gave up my faith in divorce attorneys and legal system. Mr. Verdin is an exception. He is accommodating, understanding, compassionate and a legal encyclopedia at immigration related laws and services. I have no doubt that my citizenship will be processed in time with his firm’s expert help. Mr. Verdin’s legal assistant, Vanessa has been fantastic in dealing with not only my case but also has been very helpful, knowledgeable and prompt in submitting my mother’s I-539 application. There are plenty of capable or inept immigration attorneys’ offices that will take your case, there are not many attorneys and legal assistants that are cordial, compassionate and prolific at what they do. If you can afford, please hire Mr. Verdin, he will be there for you in your good times, bad times and rainy days. November 22, 2022 I was not wrong on my assessment - my citizenship application has been approved last week (within 5 months after applying) and I have been placed in line for the oath ceremony. USCIS Irving Service Center currently has a 19 month waiting period for N-400 processing but fortunately I did not have to wait that long. I read mixed reviews for this service center but I had a pretty good experience with the immigration officer and the personnels there. I prepped enough for the citizenship interview with the guidance from Vanessa. She is a fantastic, caring, capable and compassionate legal assistant. The immigration officer did not ask many difficult questions and overall, it was a pretty good experience. I had to wait two days after my interview before I found out that I was placed for oath ceremony. Attorney Verdin was there with me which was such a relief and his presence was a huge moral booster. If you are applying for the citizenship or green card, keep your hopes up and always do the right thing. If you are sincere in your achievements, follow and obey the laws of the land, there is nothing to worry about. Having Attorney Verdin by my side was also a bonus. I stand by my earlier review - if you can afford, please hire Attorney Verdin and his law firm. He is such a humble and pleasant attorney to deal with, you will feel great after leaving your case to him and his legal associates. Thank you, Attorney Verdin and Vanessa for being there on this stressful journey.

Hiring the right lawyer is crucial for the success of your case. Here are some important questions to ask during your initial consultation:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the expected timeline for my case?

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Dallas, Texas?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
