I was falsely accused of egregious professional misconduct under the Army’s SHARP program. Due to the notoriety of SHARP in the current command climate of the Armed Forces, that false allegation resulted in me facing not only an other-than-honorable involuntary termination of my military service but also irreparable and irrevocable harm to my professional career. The opprobrium of being labeled a “predator” presumed guilty of false sexual misconduct and the subsequent isolation stemming from the Army’s stance of ‘guilt by accusation’ in matters pertaining to SHARP showed my family and me a new level of hellish fear as we felt the weight of the Department of Defense smothering our integrity, honor, and livelihood. I was referred to Colby Vokey by a trusted friend, and that referral changed our lives. Mr. Vokey told my story; the truthful story. He provided encouragement and support and continuously stoked the will to fight back against the injustice of a system designed to protect victims but that was being weaponized against me. Thanks to Mr. Vokey, I was exonerated of all charges, including an overturn of the “founded” SHARP allegations and subsequent administrative actions, and I was vindicated. If you are reading this, searching for the best military attorney for your case, stop here. You’ve found him.

When you are facing an opponent with the power of the US government behind them, you absolutely need a lawyer/warrior like Colby. The prosecution has unlimited resources, shady investigators, & journalists which can leave most in a state of hopelessness but hiring Colby leveled the playing field for me. His leadership and expertise during my trial is THE reason why I'm home now, raising my family, and not languishing in a prison cell for years. If you are involved in a serious legal issue, HIRE Colby. He will see you through!

I am a mid-level Officer in the USAF. I was offered an Art 15 on Article 120, 128 and 134 accusations for something I didn't do. Colby was there with me and my wife the whole way. I rejected the Art 15, went to a court-martial, and won (easily, in hindsight). I had never hired an attorney before, and that process itself is daunting. Colby took my phone call, explained everything in detail and helped settle me down. If you call and he doesn't get back to you fast...know he's probably in court kicking butt like he did for me. He will get back to you. HIRE COLBY. His knowledge of the UCMJ and defending against todays political military leaders is essential to your livelihood. I have my military career, my marriage and my future thanks to his actions in court and leading up to court. He also works very well with your appointed military lawyer. HIRE COLBY. PERIOD.

After an in-depth search for the best Military Law, Criminal defense lawyer, it was obvious after my conversation with Mr. Vokey that I would be retaining him to defend my son. Colby Vokey is highly recommended, he is extremely knowledgeable, and an utmost professional. He takes a personal interest in his clients. Colby makes his case personal and introduces every bit of passion into his case. He is well versed in all facets of criminal law and the UCMJ/MCM. Mr. Vokey’s persistence and steadfast abilities was instrumental in not just convincing, but proving to a “senior” jury panel, to deliver nothing less than a “NOT GUILTY” verdict in this (Sexual Assault case), in which my son WAS falsely accused. Our family is extremely grateful to Mr. Vokey. Without his presence, perseverance, and in-depth knowledge, I am confident that this case would’ve had a different outcome. Mr. Vokey fights to bring forth the evidence, truth, and ultimately justice in the courtroom. I highly recommend that you make whatever sacrifices you need to, in order to secure/retain this highly qualified Criminal Defense lawyer. Thank you, Mr. Vokey.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Dallas, Texas?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
