Carol made the whole process of bankruptcy feel less daunting and worked with us to be thorough and organized to get it done! We really appreciated her professional attitude and understanding of our situation to complete what was needed and made us feel much more confident of our situation going forward. She was thoughtful and easy to work with and great at communication and reassurance of all that we didnt understand! I would recommend her to anyone in need of an attorney and have thanked my close friend for recommending her repeatedly!

Carol can take on the most difficult problems that may arise concerning Guardianship, Elder law, and other legal issues that may unexpectantly arise. She is understanding, thorough, and accomplishes the complex tasks at hand with competence and grace. Carol solved the difficult problems that arose for my 94 year old Mom, allowing her to return to a safe home and be financially secure. Carol offers solid legal advice, remains constantly available, and I would give her my best recommendation for helping you and your family.

Carol did a great job handling my case and she was very professional! She knew what and what not to do in order to get my case settled before it went to trial. I would highly recommend her and will continue doing business with her as long as needed. One of the most important things I would like to comment on is the fact that she actually cares about her clients and does everything possible to help you understand what and how things work throughout your case. Again, I appreciate her and would highly recommend her!

Carol Wolfram represented a friend for whom I acted as Guardian and did a masterful job representing him and his right to live out his life on his terms in the face of a terminal diagnosis. Not only was Carol diligent and insightful, but also intuitive and sensitive to my friend's end of life dignity. She not only knew her stuff professionally, but added a very human dimension at a very difficult time. I would gladly recommend her as legal counsel for all matters regarding Guardianship and family matters.

I asked Carol to represent me as the administrator of a probate estate to file a lawsuit against some of the decedent's heirs for breach of fiduciary duty. Carol was thorough and extremely professional, especially in view of the high emotions surrounding the case. When the case ended up in bankruptcy court, I was grateful for Carol's expertise in that area as well. Although I am an attorney, I am not a litigator nor a bankruptcy attorney. Carol explained all issues surrounding the case in both courts without being condescending. I highly recommend Carol for any litigation or bankruptcy matter.

I will forever appreciate his help and guidance through it all. This man is a man of great wisdom and he never one gave me the run around of anything. He spoke with firmness and with such clarity and I really needed that. Ex was abusive and it was scary trying to break away from that and save my little girl from growing in that mess. Mr.Kuykendall helped me put an end to it, ex signed over the rights and me and my little girl live in peace and I truly cherish that. I had never had to deal with any legal issues and he was clear and explained everything thoroughly. Definitely recommend him 1000%!

I used Martinez Law firm to complete a modification to my divorce decree. As you can imagine anything that involves children is incredibly emotional. With prior firms every time I discussed my case with my lawyer it was like groundhogs day. I would have to bring them back up to speed. With Bonnie she never had to be told anything twice. I can't begin to tell you how ensuring that alone was. We got the case settled in a manner that the girls got to have their input. What a win!

Regan Donnenfield was a light of hope to my family at a time when my options appeared limited. The likelihood of a satisfactory resolution seemed high on impossible. She was able to change the custody of my children, lower alimony, change out of state visitation and electronic communication. She also represented me in court several times and I did not have to travel every time. She provided me with documentation for future reference and forms that I would need to be able to travel outside of the country with my children. Her calm and empathetic demeanor offered emotional support to myself and those I care about most. My children and I are eternally grateful for her service and I hereby highly recommend Ms. Regan Donnenfield without reservation.

Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Denton, Texas?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
