Mrs. Bunn is an excellent Attorney. She was the difference between me going to prison for over 28 years in my court martial case for several crimes I did not commit. Mrs. Bunn is a Pitt-bull in the court room; she knew UCMJ laws better than the entire Fort Bliss Prosecuting team! Mrs. Bunn never sugar coated anything. She is 100% honest and tells you everything to your face. She always replied within couple of minutes during any question I had, and my trial took a little over 2 years! Mrs. Bunn pricing was very reasonable comparing to the competition in the El Paso area. If you value your freedom and your career, you will hire Mrs. Bunn. She is the first step to your solution! I consider Mrs. Bunn family till my last breath. Mrs. Bunn did the job of the C.I.D, since they never really investigated the case. The Army did not do their job, but I was glad Mrs. Bunn was on my side. She turned to Sherlock Holmes and seen things in the case that investigators did not see or considered. Not only is Mrs. Bunn a great attorney, she’s also a great detective in solving your case and adding the pieces to the puzzle that the prosecutor and the Army missed. For 2 long years, about 5 trials for my court martial, and over 20 witnesses flying from all over the country, Ms. Bunn was excellent in every aspect of the situation. She will work day & night for you and your case. Mrs. Bunn does not sleep, or eat, till she wins your case! If you’re reading this review, I would tell you, don’t look anymore for any attorney for your case. You have found the closest thing to God, to represent you in your case and I guarantee that Mrs. Bunn will win your case! In a period of over 2 years, the Army spend millions of tax payer’s money trying to prosecute me, and Mrs. Bunn was like “Wonder Woman” in all 5x court martial I had. I was found not Guilty of all the charges against me! God bless Mrs. Bunn and her entire family!

I came to Sherry for some issues i had in the military, she worked with my budget and worked morning, noon, and night to get all of my questions answered no matter how big or small they were. She explained things to me like i was an adult and was very reasonable with her fees. it felt more like a donation than a charge. She drafted all of the documents for me and made us feel at ease, without the illusion that everything was just going to go away and solve it's self. Realistic expectations were set and she really delivered. Sherry, we love you and think about you all of the time. She was the difference between panic attacks and possible negative sentencing, and me being able to walk away with my sanity, and my freedom.

I was recommended to Ms. Bunn by a friend. I was so impressed with her Military Experience in the court room as a soldier, but more recently as a civil lawyer. I would call her immediately if you are facing potential military action. I would certainly want her in my corner, don't wait another day. Her retainer fee is very reasonable, a lot less than you are probably thinking.

Passionate, committed and relentless best describe Ms. Sherilyn Bunn. High level of expertise regarding Military Law and the Uniform code of Military Justice. Like a surgeon when reviewing facts, evidence and witness testimony. The piece of mind knowing that I had the best leading my defense and knowing that no one would out work her or prepare harder than her was very reassuring throughout the legal process. Also which should not be overlooked is her professionalism and standard of service. I always felt and was treated like I was her only and most important client always returning phone calls or emails on a timely basis that is the way Ms. Bunn handles her clients. Thanks Sherry everything, I will be forever grateful!

Mrs Bunn was on point from the start. She knows military law better then the prosecution does. She picked up things about my case that others had overlooked and the results of that saved my career. Although I hope I never need her services again, I wouldn't think twice on my selection. Threw out my case when JAG attorneys learned of my attorney, they all said she's the best. She's a bulldog. If your reading this review, you want her.

Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of El Paso, Texas?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
