What a nightmare experience I had with this lawyer. I hired and paid Mark Grosso up front to represent my son with some marijuana charges. My son was put on a program where if he stayed out of trouble for 2 years the charges would be dismissed and his record was eligible to be expunged. I paid Mark Grosso to have him represent my son and to file the expunction order. When 2 years were up and it was time to file the expunction, Mark completely forgot. I emailed Mark constantly to remind him to file the expunction and he wouldn't respond or responded with a promise to take care of it but never did. I finally contacted the Texas Bar Association to see if they could assist me. The bar told me the first step in the process of the Bar helping me was to write a letter to Mark and deliver it to him. I looked up his office address online and found 2 addresses for him. I went to both. One was not even a real address and the other one was an office but not for him. I finally looked up his home address in the tax records and went by his home to deliver the letter. He came to the door and asked me to give him another chance - he promised to take care of the expunction. I decided to give him another chance but again, he never filed it. I went back to the house again and this time I spoke to his wife. His wife said "oh, this is not like my husband at all" She called him and of course he answered his wife's call. More promises from Mark to take care of it. When he finally filed the expunction, he filed it incorrectly - twice. It was 2 years late before he finally did it a 3rd time and did it correctly. Save yourself a lot of trouble and anxiety and stay away from hiring this man.

Consulted with Chris about my case. It didnt take long to decide to hire him. He explained in detail the process of each stage my case would go and how he would help me. Cory was also a big help staying in constant communication about court dates and times to be there. I felt comfortable and confident with Chris's representation.

Mr. Abel helped me when I was falsely accused of a felony crime. He was appointed to me by the court at first and was able to get the case dismissed, but the DA decided to refile lesser charges on me (sore loser). Mr. Abel had done such a good job with my felony case that I decided to hire him on my new refiled lesser charges and he made quick work of them and got all of my charges dismissed. Mr. Abel hung tough with me through two courts. I never in my life thought I would be falsely accused of a crime but I was extremely lucky to get Abel as my lawyer! He was also a prosecutor for some time so he has relationships with people in the courts that some lawyers don’t. He did an excellent job and if you have the opportunity to hire him I think you’d be foolish not to. He’s really good and his paralegal Kory was very attentive and helpful throughout a very stressful time in my life.

We came to Virginia last year because we received multiple offers to buy our mineral rights. Virginia thoroughly investigated what we owned, and with her insight and advice, we made the best decision regarding how we should proceed. And because of her knowledge of the oil and gas industry, we are in much better shape in handling any future issues that may accompany our mineral rights, whereas before we had no clue what we were doing.

I hired Virginia to help with a complicated Division Order and casually mentioned a problem with another property that was "held by production" with a stripper well when large wells were producing on adjoining propteries on three sides of our land. Other lawyers had told me there wasn't much I could do and I thought getting a farmout was an impossibility. Virginia cited Texas laws and decisions that were petinent to our case and said we had a good chance to get a farmout. Her experience in Texas oil and gas practice, knowledge of the laws involved and the ability to push the proper buttons resulted in the farmout we wanted, damages and royalty increase from 12 1/2% to 20%. All this was accomplished without litigation. We have other Texas minerals and will turn to Virginia for help in all OGM matters. .

Rather than just sign a proposed lease, decided to have Ms Moore review and give an opinion. Wow! Sure glad we did. She not only had important changes to recommend but also was successful in getting a much better lease bonus for us. A pleasure working with her.

Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Flower Mound, Texas?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
