I went to JP Court, (represented myself), to evict a tenant for multiple violations, and not paying rent for months. Judgement was awarded in my favor. However, my tenant played the COVID card, claimed CARES act protection and many other things, to file an appeal. Tenant was granted the appeal to a County Court. I hired the Guest and Gray Law firm to take this matter over. Scott Gray was the Attorney that put my case together. Due to a conflict, Robert Guest stepped in, and tried the case. Both of these attorneys were well prepared and presented a great case before the court. The actions of these people resulted in a judgement in my favor. This thing seemed like a nightmare that just kept dragging on-and-on, until I hired these people to represent me. With the pandemic, shut-downs, and all the mandates put in place to protect tenants, these people still got it done. Trying to get an eviction case before a Judge, during these terrible times we are all experiencing, is difficult. Getting a positive outcome, even more so. Their office staff were great, and they charged me an unbelievably fair Price. Thank you Scott and Robert!

Case was set for mediation at years of litigation. At mediation the insurance lawyer was a complete ass. He made the mistake of trying to bully our lawyer and got owned. We got a great settlement and it was fun watching Scott in action. He's a warrior for his clients.

My family is going through a terrible car accident lawsuit and we chose Scott to help us. This has lasted years but Scott still takes the time to discuss our case with us and let us know what's happening. The insurance company is trying to get out of paying for this accident, but Scott won't let them. We have worked with lawyers before and Scott is the best so far.

I was involved in an accident where I was the passenger and the victim of the whole incident. I was constantly worried about the outcome whenever I recieved a letter saying i was being sued by the other insurance company for an outrageous ammount of money. Mr. Gray made sure I was clear of any kind of money or responsibility for the incident and if i had any kind of questions I could call him any time and if he didnt answer I recieved a call back from him almost immediately. He knew I was anxious about everything and made sure to call me down and kept me informed the second he found anything out. i would suggest him to anyone. He is a reliable respectful guy and is going to make sure that you have the best experience he can give.

I had a deposition involving a really nasty lawyer. Fortunately I had Tracy by my side to stand up to this creep and make objections. This other lawyer was rude but Tracy never lost her cool. She knows how to handle herself in a battle. I'm really lucky she was there for me.

I am THOUROLY IMPRESSED with Tracy Gray and Guest and Gray!!!! Tracy was amazing...guiding me through the divorce process. She expedited my case and gave SOUND legal advice. My divorce was extremely stressful and unique in a lot of ways. But Tracy made sure that I understood EVERYTHING that was happening and explained all my different options. She reassured me the whole way and always made decisions that were in my best interest. She responded extremely quick to all my emails, phone calls, etc. I never had to call or email repeatedly to get answers to my questions. In my opinion, Tracy went WAY ABOVE AND BEYOND handling my case. I highly, highly, HIGHLY recommend Guest and Gray for any legal issues one might need!!!!

Trina is very kind, knowledgable and truly had our families best interest at heart. She had the Cps/state information to provide our family in order to carry out a successful sibling adoption and she stood her ground when it came to what was best for our family! I could not have asked for a better attorney and she is our #1 choice for our second and final adoption! I would recommend her above all else!

Trina is extremely easy to work with; her hours are very flexible, she answered all my questions and kept in touch by phone, text, and email. I would recommend Trina for anything, but especially, for adoptions with difficulties. She successfully completed our adoption which consisted of two different types and managed to get both court dates on the same day!!!!

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Forney, Texas?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
