Pros
1
Highly competent and effective in court, with a reputation for success in trials and negotiations
“Mike has an extremely well organized, responsive team in his office. Mike knows his job inside and out and is a great asset to have in court. Highly recommended.”
2
Honest, ethical, and gives clients realistic advice, even if it means not taking a case
“Another reason I admire Schneider and company is that they advised me not to file another case. When an attorney tells you not to do something and save your money, trust him. Most attorneys would take your case and give you wrong advice. Not Mike.”
3
Passionate about their work and dedicated to achieving the best possible outcomes for clients
“When Mike says he feels most alive as a lawyer when in a trial, he is being honest, and that alone sets him apart from 99% of his peers (while being honest makes him unique among all lawyers!)”
Cons
1
Can form biased opinions about clients, which can negatively impact the quality of representation
“He formed a biased opinion of me which caused him to not represent me very well at all. When they take the oath to practice law, they're supposed to give you an objective representation & if they cannot do so they are supposed to withdraw from the case.”
2
Potential for long delays in resolving cases, which can be stressful for clients
“Fast forward over 7 years later to 2016 and Mike still remembered my issue and was able to SUCCESSFULLY argue on my behalf. He was always only a phone call away.”

I would give Mike and Jessica 10 stars if I could. When Mike says he feels most alive as a lawyer when in a trial, he is being honest, and that alone sets him apart from 99% of his peers (while being honest makes him unique among all lawyers!) Jessica Phillips is Mike's fully effective teammate, and together they are unbeatable. My previous three 'Super Lawyers' just wanted to shuffle the paperwork, collect the $400/hr fee, and not really make the most out of the circumstances of the divorce. With assets in the 7 figures, Mike easily saved me some multiple of 6 figures by being persuasive with the judge, not pressuring me in any way to settle at mediation, and working patiently to maximize my best outcome. He and Jessica were also very quick to get up to speed on my divorce, as I hired them in an emergency just 30 days before our first mediation. Their unwavering focus from day 1 was how to best present the case to a judge and jury. And in that regard, Mike has a carefully honed intuition about judges and jurors, a sense of judgment that makes him such a credible adversary in trial or negotiations. Other lawyers, sensing Mike and Jessica's determination and skill at winning in court, may want to pressure their client to settle rather than go to trial. The dirty little secret among lawyers is that trial work requires a uniquely challenging skill set, and can result in winning or losing in a very public way. You can see why most family lawyers spin the tale that 'trial is just going to cost you a bunch of money to get the same basic outcome as negotiation or mediation'. Finally, while not a factor in my divorce, Mike has a defense lawyer background, and so if someone is throwing around the 'abuse' pejorative, you want lawyers who understand exactly how to work that angle. Hire Mike and Jessica. Give them 110% of your support. And in the years ahead, in the quiet moments when for no reason you recall that anxious and fearful time when life was so profoundly challenging, you will smile at your good fortune in having hired Mike and Jessica.

I contacted the Schneider firm in 2008 to discuss a case that could prove detrimental to my career. On the first appointment, Mike assured me that he would be able to assist me but did warn me of the lengthy backlog which could delay my case for several years. Fast forward over 7 years later to 2016 and Mike still remembered my issue and was able to SUCCESSFULLY argue on my behalf. He was always only a phone call away. I believe that many attorneys would have forgotten about my issue instead moving on to more high profile cases. Not with Mike. I never felt alone during this long, scary process. I would not hesitate to refer someone to him.

Good attorneys are a rare commodity, especially these days, when people seem to be so obsessed on milking money from others. I found Mike and Melissa to be real honest people. Being honest is one pre-requisite; the other quality that a client must seek in hiring an attorney is whether he/she is competent or not. I would also give an A+ to Mike and his team on competency. He and his team represented me on two accounts and did their work with due diligence while charging reasonable fee. They won both cases for me, which were not so easy. Another reason I admire Schneider and company is that they advised me not to file another case. When an attorney tells you not to do something and save your money, trust him. Most attorneys would take your case and give you wrong advice. Not Mike. I am a big fan of Mike and his team and respect them, after being burned by numerous attorneys (on the same cases). I whole heartedly recommend them.

I was charged with two felonies facing up to 20 years in prison. Mr. Schneider negotiated a plea deal for me that resulted in one felony charge being DISMISSED and the second one reduced to a Misdemeanor. My punishment was 2 years probation. I cannot say enough good things about the professionalism and timely manner in which he handled my cases. If you want a highly intelligent and very competent attorney representing you, this is the attorney you want on your side fighting for you!

I am an attorney in Salt Lake City Utah. I located Mr. Sanders on Avvo, when one of my small business clients was sued in federal court for the District of Texas. Mr. Sanders was responsive, provided urgent assistance in the case and directed us to a local published opinion almost directly on point. His responsiveness allowed my client to make some important decisions quickly. I was very impressed with Mr. Sanders.

Great lawyer. Helped me when 2 other attorneys would not and got a great result. The defense attorney thought very highly of Mr. Collins as did the adjuster and they knew he would go to trial if he thought it should. That helped get the case settled.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Fort Worth, Texas?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
