Lisa Haines understood the significance of mental health problems where the judicial system fails to. We had a case that was clearly untreated mental illness & NOT criminal. She was able to show the judge evidence & get the charges completely thrown out. Charges that should have not been in the criminal system to begin with! Mental illness is unfortunately a sad failure with the police & the courts. Lisa Haines did not give up until someone finally looked at the evidence. It took two years & she never gave up. She changed our lives. Thank you, Lisa!

i never wrote a review for anything before but i just have to spread the love and experience with Lisa Haines! I am truly grateful and feel absolutely blessed for Lisa Haines, she was my lawyer my parents helped hire for me after i had got arrested. i had never got in trouble before and i was traumatized, full of anxiety and worry after that experience and was in need of a good promising lawyer for my case. my family had used Lisa Haines in the past a few times before and had GREAT success! she was not only affordable but amazing at what she does! i felt extremely comfortable with her and confident that she would do what she had to in order to get me into my first offender drug program in time and to drop the fraud/drug charges, misdemeanor, and felony against me. she even gave me the extra boost i needed to get my GED! this woman deserves an award for how professional, confident, caring and loving she is. she made me feel like she genuinely cared about me and my case, like she was family, and im happy to say that not only i, but my family consider her family after all her care and help! she was there for me and never left me questioning anything pertaining to my case and never failed to let me know what i needed to with an email or phone call (or detailed voicemail) i appreciate her help (and her lovely assistant, Summer) so much so that i strongly recommend hiring her! you wont regret it. God bless!

After consulting with three criminal lawyers my wife and I selected Lisa Hanes to take our son's case. Before we hired her she visited our son in jail to assess the situation and then we had a second meeting with her. The other two attorneys didn't, they just gave us a price. Her office is close to the jail and Tarrant County court house so she can be very efficient with her time. During consultation she was able to quickly discern our situation and lay out several scenarios of how she would go about defending this case and what the possible outcomes would be. After hiring her and attending the first court hearing we were impressed with her focus and style.. There were many cases before the court and some attorneys seemed to be more interested in themselves and impressing each other than working with their cases. She has always answered our emails in a timely manner and we are glad to have found her and would highly recommend her. Being suicidal our son assaulted two family members because they wouldn't give him a gun. She has pointed us to the many mental health programs available in Tarrant County and it has greatly helped us in understanding his condition. With the testimonies from our two family members, our son complying with the criminal court directives and guidance from Lisa we are on our way to getting his felony offenses reduced and getting him accepted into the Mental Health Diversion Program. Thank You Lisa!

I am an attorney in Salt Lake City Utah. I located Mr. Sanders on Avvo, when one of my small business clients was sued in federal court for the District of Texas. Mr. Sanders was responsive, provided urgent assistance in the case and directed us to a local published opinion almost directly on point. His responsiveness allowed my client to make some important decisions quickly. I was very impressed with Mr. Sanders.

Great lawyer. Helped me when 2 other attorneys would not and got a great result. The defense attorney thought very highly of Mr. Collins as did the adjuster and they knew he would go to trial if he thought it should. That helped get the case settled.

Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Fort Worth, Texas?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
