Mr. Price and his staff has supported me for years through a divorce and child custody situation. While the opposition in the case was uncooperative and showed strong instability, Mr. Price worked diligently to provide me with fairness as it pertained to the courts, child support office, and my divorce decree.

I am so grateful to Mr. King for taking the time to meet with me and discuss my situation. He is a great listener and took the time to thoughtfully explain the difference between collaborative divorce and traditional litigation. I felt that Mr. King truly had my best interests at heart and talked to me about what would be best based on my circumstances. 10/10 highly recommend!

The reason I retained The Price Law Firm was supportive staff and reasonable lawyer and prices. i always felt that my questions and concerns were addressed. I decided The Price Law Firm was the right firm for me because i did not want to punish or alienate my spouse but i did want to make the the split fair and the future easier for both of us to care for our children. mr price and his associates were fair-minded and strove for the same collaborative process that i had in mind. My favorite thing about working with The Price Law Firm was i always felt like i was listened to and that my questions were always answered. The outcome of this case was that my spouse and i were divorced in 4-5 months and we are able to remain friends an co-parents to this day. As a result, i feel like i’ve rediscovered who i was before marriage and thus have gained confidence in myself again. my children have blossomed having less stress and less resentment and anger between us parents making them unhappy as well. I feel very lucky to have had the guidance and support of Mr. Price and his staff to ensure that this process was handled by like-minded, experienced lawyers.

I have had the pleasure of work through my divorce with Dick as my lawyer. When I came to Dick, I had just got out of the military and had been working on my divorce for 3 years. Dick took the time to hear me out and what I had wanted from the divorce. He always clearly explained what every charge he charged me for and why there was a charge. I would recommend to have your documents ready. He will scrub through the documents with a fine tooth comb. Divorce can be difficult but was more difficult as I slowly learned I had PTSD from the military. Dick never got upset and was very understanding. He was very supportive of my needs. After first I wanted everything from the divorce but Dick was able to get me to sit down and identify what was fair and correct. At the end of the divorce I walked away knowing I made the best choices and I don't think any other lawyer would have been able to give me the support he gave me. After working with Dick for 8 months, he was able to work with my wife's lawyer and come to a fair settlement. He did a great job of cleaning up a 3 year messy divorce in just a few months. I would highly recommend him as a lawyer!

I am an attorney in Salt Lake City Utah. I located Mr. Sanders on Avvo, when one of my small business clients was sued in federal court for the District of Texas. Mr. Sanders was responsive, provided urgent assistance in the case and directed us to a local published opinion almost directly on point. His responsiveness allowed my client to make some important decisions quickly. I was very impressed with Mr. Sanders.

Great lawyer. Helped me when 2 other attorneys would not and got a great result. The defense attorney thought very highly of Mr. Collins as did the adjuster and they knew he would go to trial if he thought it should. That helped get the case settled.

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Fort Worth, Texas?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
