...is too often the answer. Standard is the word used. I lost more than I should have.

Unfortunately, I did not have a positive experience with Mr. Johnson. Said attorney seems to have the confidence and legal knowledge to represent his clients in a fair manner. However, his attributes are overshadowed by his evident desire to maintain positive rapport with opposing counsel. At every turn, I felt my children were underrepresented. It is my hope that in the future, Mr. Johnson and his firm spend their efforts aggressively representing their clients in lieu of aggressively protecting their network of legal cronies.

Jeff by far exceeded my expectations on all levels, from the intitial consultation I knew I found the best! I first found Jeff after having a less then ideal lawyer that failed to do due diligence on my case, and I knew my kids deserved better, and that's when I found Jeff! His well respected reputation in Tarrant county is testimony to how high of caliber attorney you will be getting when you are represented by Jeff. As a gay single dad I was under the impression I had less rights then other parents and Jeff reassured me that was the furthest thing from the truth. He handled my initial divorce/custody and multiple mofications years later. During urgent times he's handled exparte hearings promptly and with ease. He always had the kids best interest in mind as well as trying to make it as cost effective as possible for me. I couldn't rave enough about how intelligent and spot on this man is. As traumatic as divorce and custody cases can be, I actually enjoyed watching Jeff in the courtroom, he is always two steps ahead of the opposing council and makes it look effortless. He is honest and shoot from the hip, I knew we were always on the same page and what our realistic expectations are. Jeff is readily available during times of need and I was never in the dark or left out of the loop as him and his staff are great at communicating along the way. I cant say enough positives about Jeff. I will add that if by chance Jeff is unavailable, his associates Brenna and Eric are at the same level as Jeff and you will be in good hands as well, you can't go wrong with anyone in the practice.

I hired Jeff after becoming frustrated with my previous attorney, and I am so glad I did. Due to my ex-wife’s false allegations of family violence, I had not seen my children in over 12 months and my previous attorney suggested that the situation was hopeless and that I should simply give up the idea of spending anytime with my kids. That was not then nor ever something I would accept. I needed a change, someone who would listen to me but yet help me understand the process and the realistic part of divorce. Once I hired Jeff, he got the wheels turning immediately and assured me that the situation was not hopeless at all. That as painful as it was to deal with alienation and lies being told to my kid’s patients would prevail. First, he won an enforcement hearing and got the judge to order my wife not to contact my employer, making my wife and her attorney taste defeat for the first time. Shortly thereafter, we had a two day trial and Jeff not only succeeded in showing the judge that the allegations of violence were false, but he won the trial, got me unsupervised access to my son’s and even got the judge to order reimbursement from my ex-wife for the money she made me waste on plane tickets during this terrible ordeal. Jeff is very knowledgeable, as well as being detailed and prepared. Even though a divorce trial is stressful, it was still enjoyable to see Jeff objecting to my ex-wife’s lawyer’s evidence and arguments. He seemed to be operating in a higher gear than my ex-wife’s attorney. I could spend all day saying how impressed I am with Jeff and how I recommend him to anyone going through a family law battle, but instead I’ll say this: I’ve come to consider him more than just an attorney –he is now will also be my friend. Divorce is ugly, no matter which way you look at it. I would say that my divorce was not only ugly but war; it was more than a Jerry Springer episode, it probably was more like a season or two. But it was never about getting back at that person or even. For me and Jeff it was about the kids. All that is important is your kids. Jeff helped me with getting back to what is most important, the kids.

Always have good strategies and gets back you with right away if he misses your call. He always there to listen first and will then give you great advise. I'm not worried about a thing now because I know he has my back. He will also work with you even when your struggling. He is not only a great attorney; he is a great person.

I am an attorney in Salt Lake City Utah. I located Mr. Sanders on Avvo, when one of my small business clients was sued in federal court for the District of Texas. Mr. Sanders was responsive, provided urgent assistance in the case and directed us to a local published opinion almost directly on point. His responsiveness allowed my client to make some important decisions quickly. I was very impressed with Mr. Sanders.

Great lawyer. Helped me when 2 other attorneys would not and got a great result. The defense attorney thought very highly of Mr. Collins as did the adjuster and they knew he would go to trial if he thought it should. That helped get the case settled.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Fort Worth, Texas?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
