What can one ask for when navigating the financial, mental, and physical stress caused by an unexpected incident? Patience, communication, empathy, transparency, integrity, compassion; a few of the many qualities consistently displayed by Alton Todd and Seth Park as they handled my case. Always a text or phone call away, I was truly blessed to have this team on my side and can see how this firm has maintained such a strong reputation. I hope I never have to seek legal counsel again, but if I do I know who I would want in my corner. Thank you for everything.

My son was involved in a very serious automobile accident. Seth and Alton were so kind and attentive to our entire family. I highly recommend their firm.

The Law Firm of Alton Todd exceeded my expectations. I was involved in a horrific and life changing golf card wreck in May 2021. Alton Todd and his firm worked expediently on my behalf with the utmost of integrity. He handled my case with expertise and compassion. Alton fought tirelessly to hold the responsible parties accountable which resulted in securing a favorable settlement for me. The firm provided honesty and placed importance on the details and my individual circumstances. I never felt like just another client. Every decision during the process was made with MY best interest in mind and all options were thoroughly discussed and weighted. Without a doubt, I would hire The Law Firm of Alton Todd again if the need ever arose.

I called and spoke to a gentleman named Pedro about a case. Pedro took all my information for the attorney and called me an hour later with two follow up questions from the attorney. In that phone call he stated that the attorney would be reaching out to me later that day. Well, that was days ago and I have yet to hear from anyone. I understand when contacting a law firm that they might not take the case but a phone call conveying such would have been the courteous, professional right thing to do. That would have shown some integrity as well. *I never received a call, missed call or voicemail from you.

I called this law firm because I feel we have a legitimate wrongful death/malpractice case, but after almost 4 weeks of being told a lawyer would call me back no one ever did. A simple phone call of yes or no with an explanation would have been nice.

Case dismissed! It was a great day when I got that call from Steve! A year prior I found myself in an incident being charged with two counts felony charges that I did not commit. As a mother and wife I knew I needed the best defense as my future was at stake with 15yrs on the line. By asking multiple people, Steve’s name kept coming up. After our consultation, I was extremely confident he is who I wanted to hire. If you are innocent, trust me you can’t just walk in and say that. It’s a process, and one that Steve is the most knowledgeable of in the court room, and it shows! As a bonus Steve and his wife work together and Kristi is just as solid. Communication was always prompt and most times them reaching out to me first. When I started to have lots of questions Steve and Kristi brought me in office to review and discuss. I always felt at ease with essentially my life in their hands. For being one of the worst instances of my life, Steve you made me feel safe knowing you were the one to defend my case! Of course I’m ecstatic he was able to have my story be heard and get my CASE DISMISSED! Thank you Steve and Kristi!

I would recommend Mike to anyone. He helped me with my legal matter and truly cared and worked hard on my case. Its very difficult to find a criminal defense attorney these days that will represent you the way Mike Gutheinz and his father represented me. A++++

There is no way I would have won my case without Renee and the Renee Kennedy PLLC legal team by my side. I initially came in as the underdog, thought I didn’t have a fighting chance in my case. But her legal team turned everything around for me by paying attention to detail and catching my ex’s legal strategy mistakes that other attorneys couldn’t see. I’m super grateful to them. I ended up coming out from the bottom to the top. And there’s no way in the world I would have been able to flip my situation if it wasn’t for this law firm. Highly recommended!!! If you need a skilled, super experienced law firm. They are your must go-to.

Grateful for her service. Professional team who was on top of my case during this difficult time. Ms. Kennedy was my lawyer and advisor for several months during divorce process. I felt I was in good hands from our first call until the end. I would highly recommend her service to anyone who needs excellent representation.

I had the great pleasure of having Ms. Kennedy represent me in my divorce. A friend recommended her. I had been married for 45 years and my wife was disabled, the marriage ended due to my ex-wife's infidelity. I have various 401k savings from different employers, annuities, bank accounts and military retirement. All said and done, Ms. Kennedy negotiated the deal of a lifetime for me. I did NOT have to pay any alimony and I only had to give up twenty five percent of my military retirement and nothing else. I kept 100 percent of everything else. The process of going through a divorce is something that I would not wish on anyone. But things happen and if you find yourself going through a divorce, I cannot say enough great things about Ms. Kennedy and her whole staff. Every email, phone call, or message was usually answered within thirty minutes. There is not another attorney that I would want to represent me if I had to go through another divorce.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Friendswood, Texas?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
