Pros
1
Highly professional and knowledgeable attorneys who are great advocates and fight for clients' needs
“Highly recommend attorneys - Monica Peters, Nicole Martin, & Mary O'Neal, wish all 3 could be with me every step of the way.”
2
Efficient, responsive, and educational legal services
“Jeff and his team helped us with our will. They were very efficient, responsive, and educational.”
3
Dedicated and compassionate attorneys who go above and beyond to serve clients
“Nicole Martin is the most competent and dedicated attorney we could have ever asked for. She's handled our case with care and grace, always going above and beyond.”
4
Strong teamwork and support within the law firm
“It's clear they all support one another, frequently providing consultation in order to best serve their clients.”
5
Personable and understanding attorneys who make clients feel comfortable
“I loved Laura Roach's friendly and outgoing attitude! She made me feel very comfortable during our negotiation.”
Cons
1
Unresponsive and lack of communication from certain attorneys
“I've known the Roach family for a very long time so I was very excited to find this firm when I was needing help in closing out my parents estate. I can not tell you how horrible my experience was with Jeffrey Yates!!! Not to mention I found several other negative reviews complaining about the same thing...he NEVER returned phones calls or emails.”
2
Billing and cost issues, with services being more expensive than estimated
“We decided to use this law office for our prenuptial agreement. We were told at the roughly 10 minute $200 "consultation" that the cost of the prenup should be roughly $1,500 and if we wished to move forward, we would need to pay that up front and all billing hours would be deducted from that trust. After everything said and done, they missed their estimated cost by nearly double. Our situation is about as basic as I could imagine for a prenup and cost ”
3
Lack of responsiveness and unprofessional behavior from staff
“Multiple times tried to schedule a consultation without any success, they promise to contact you back but never do (tried calling, sending multiple emails). If you don't want/can't provide a service for some reason or you don't have capacity just explain to the customer instead of false promises and going into the ignore mode.”
4
Concerns about the competence and work ethic of certain attorneys and paralegals
“Do not hire Marry Crossett at this firm even as a paralegal. She is inexperienced and a lazy worker. She got me a very bad deal in my divorce. She didn't even follow-up on my findings which I came up with. I suffered greatly emotionally and financially due to hiring this attorney.”
5
Overall negative experiences and dissatisfaction with the law firm
“This is the absolute WORSE EXPERIENCE I HAVE Ever HAD WITH A LAW FIRM ! Please think twice before considering this firm !!!”

Albin oldner law has been the most easy and seamless process i can have asked for. Nicole martin went above and beyond to get me what i was deserved. Phoenix worked hard to make sure that all the paperwork was correct and needed in time. At first i was nervous to go through this process but the Nicole martin and her team put me at ease and assured me that there is always a way.

I couldn't be happier with my experience with Albin Oldner and more specifically Shayna Sanborn. Shanya and her legal firm represented me in a 2+ year battle that knocked me down more times than I can remember but Shayna and her team were there for me every step of the way. Her knowledge of law and family law specifically and being able to quickly act and navigate our case helped calm my nerves and curb anxiety. More than being an amazing lawyer she is genuinely a compassionate human being and is just a good person. I am beyond blessed to have been referred to Shayna and will never forget all she has done for my family and I. I couldn't recommend Shayna and Albin Oldner enough. I am forever thankful for their services.

I would 100% recommend Albin Oldner Law to anyone! We used John for an issue my husbands small business was facing. He was so helpful, patient, and kind while explaining our options. Every phone call we had with him he took his time to listen and explain, never making us feel rushed or uncomfortable. John was very knowledgeable and is definitely an expert in business law. We will definitely be using him again if an other issues come up.

My experience and expectations were just what I needed, I terminated my previous attorney because of lack attention and bad communication! Shayna Sanborn is a wonderful caring, understanding and non-judgmental! She always returned my messages or calls and actually answered her phone! I highly recommend her! My previously attorney was very very very very very inexpensive, Shayna Sanborn is not inexpensive by any means, but she is worth every dollar that I paid her, the old expression is so true you get what you pay for!!

I have been professionally collaborating with Ms. Pruitt for over a decade, as a Licensed Professional Counselor, referring to her for when ever clients of mine are in need of legal support, either for family law directly, or when seeking a referral that would be a good fit from within her network of colleagues. My patients always reiterate positive feedback and outcomes, on her referrals as well. I appreciate her breadth of knowledge, direct approach, genuine care for her clients and availability for consult even when outside her area of expertise. I also appreciate her unbiassed treatment of clients whether being a husband, wife or partner. Very professional, efficient and effective and my number one resource for any legal matters facing my clients.

Benjamin is a great lawyer. He helped me with my TN visa application. My case was a bit more complicated since I had a 3-year degree from outside of North America, but Benjamin guided me through the whole process, and I got successfully approved! (He was also very quick at responding to any questions that I had.) I would definitely recommend Benjamin to anyone looking for an immigration attorney!

A fee months ago, we received a pretty extensive RFE for a TN1 visa and were pretty anxious as to what steps to take next. Benjamin happily offered us a free consultation where we talked for about an hour and discussed a plan of action on what kind of documents we should seem out and what kind of information we should include. After a month and a half of contacting clients to get specific documents and evidence. I drafted an RFE response letter myself and hired Benjamin to go over it to improve it to maximise our chances. He did an incredible job and had a very fast turnaround for a fair price. I would 100% recommend him to anyone looking to get help with their cases and are looking for somebody who cares, without breaking the bank.

I had a pretty challenging case and received a rejection when going to the border the first time but Benjamin resolved everything in a quick and professional manner. He explained everything I needed to know, gave sound advice and helped ease some anxieties I had about the process. Can't recommend him enough!

Hiring the right lawyer is crucial for the success of your case. Here are some important questions to ask during your initial consultation:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Frisco, Texas?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
