Brett Talley handled my divorce with just the right combination of empathy, pragmatism and humor (I needed the last one). Throughout the process of publication I was kept informed and when I was told I would have to 'pay' for a surrogate to represent my runaway husband and make another attempt to contact him I exploded and Bret helped look for alternatives. Overall, his representation was seamless, informed and always transparent. He was easy to contact, returned phone calls within 24 hours and did not bill for incremental minutes to simply provide a three minute update. He stayed within our established budget, explained fees and costs and his staff with extremely helpful. My divorce went smoothly and ultimately as I wanted it, as painlessly as was possible under the circumstances. I will hopefully never need his services again, but if I need them this is where I would go.

Guest & Gray represented me in a debt collection case and helped me avoid paying anything to the creditor. Brett Talley came highly recommended, and was my attorney. I listened to friends and family and tried to handle this myself...epic fail...there is no substitute for a professional ! I would recommend Guest & Gray if you need help defending a debt collection lawsuit.

A few years back I started a small business without any understanding of the legal ins-and-outs involved. The venture started to blossom after three years, and without consulting someone in the legal field, I agreed to surrender half of my business to a "friend" in exchange for their assistance managing this business. Less than six months into the "new agreement," this "friend" decided that they didn't have the time or interest to continue assisting with the business and asked to be bought out as partner, but also wanted to retain a stake in the business. As you can see, my naivete got me into a frustrating debacle, and I had no clue how to approach the situation. During the initial conversation with Mr. Talley, I found him friendly, easy to talk to and genuinely interested in providing me with the necessary guidance I needed for this situation. After a few email exchanges and phone conversations in which Mr. Talley gathered as much information as possible, he presented to me with what he thought was the best way to approach the situation. While the outcome didn't come out 100% in my favor, based on the fact I had a written contract in place, Mr. Talley's advice led to an amicable agreement with this "friend" resulting in me minimizing the damages and reacquiring this business in full. I'm very thankful for the time and effort that Mr. Talley spent with my situation. Like I previously noted, he was kind, easy to speak to, eager to provide the advice and most importantly:reliable. I have no reservations in recommending Mr. Talley's services for those who need legal assistance and/or advice. Thank you very much, Mr. Talley.

Brett helped us with our wills. We have a minor child and I want to know that he will be taken care of completely by the person we chose to leave him too. I have heard thru numerous people that if its not clearly stated where your minor child should be they then become a ward of the state. Not wanting to take that chance whether it be true or not, we needed something more concrete. Brett has answered all of our questions to the best of his knowledge and if he didn't know he did the research and came back to us with the right answers. I've known Brett my entire life, I wouldn't trust anybody else with the big decisions that come in preparing this document. I will definitely use Brett for any other legal matters! Thanks!!

I have been professionally collaborating with Ms. Pruitt for over a decade, as a Licensed Professional Counselor, referring to her for when ever clients of mine are in need of legal support, either for family law directly, or when seeking a referral that would be a good fit from within her network of colleagues. My patients always reiterate positive feedback and outcomes, on her referrals as well. I appreciate her breadth of knowledge, direct approach, genuine care for her clients and availability for consult even when outside her area of expertise. I also appreciate her unbiassed treatment of clients whether being a husband, wife or partner. Very professional, efficient and effective and my number one resource for any legal matters facing my clients.

Benjamin is a great lawyer. He helped me with my TN visa application. My case was a bit more complicated since I had a 3-year degree from outside of North America, but Benjamin guided me through the whole process, and I got successfully approved! (He was also very quick at responding to any questions that I had.) I would definitely recommend Benjamin to anyone looking for an immigration attorney!

A fee months ago, we received a pretty extensive RFE for a TN1 visa and were pretty anxious as to what steps to take next. Benjamin happily offered us a free consultation where we talked for about an hour and discussed a plan of action on what kind of documents we should seem out and what kind of information we should include. After a month and a half of contacting clients to get specific documents and evidence. I drafted an RFE response letter myself and hired Benjamin to go over it to improve it to maximise our chances. He did an incredible job and had a very fast turnaround for a fair price. I would 100% recommend him to anyone looking to get help with their cases and are looking for somebody who cares, without breaking the bank.

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Frisco, Texas?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
