Dana did a great job handling my divorce. He was super responsive throughout the process with all communication. He helped me to stay level headed and make smart financial decisions to get the divorce finalized in a timely manner for minimal cost. He made sure all of my concerns were addressed concerning my children and business that I own. I would highly recommend him for anyone going through a divorce. He is the best in Frisco!

My niece was facing a very difficult and complicated custody battle for her little girl; so, my wife and I stepped in to help. We located Dana and could not be more pleased with the choice. He proved to have a depth of knowledge with respect to family law that is equal or greater than the best family attorneys in the area. Our basis for this statement includes both attorneys we have engaged in the past as well as those we encountered from the opposing side. Dana coupled this with exceptional strategy as he applied the law in a manner that stayed one step ahead of opposing counsel. His knowledge and skill, however, are equally matched with compassion and true concern for not only our niece as his client but for her daughter, which was very clear with his exceptional communication skills. My wife and I highly recommend Dana and his firm to anyone facing any family law situation, including and especially those that are the most difficult and that have the most at stake.

I chose Dana to represent me after several friends and colleagues recommended him. Dana is a competent attorney with proven litigation skills in and out of the courtroom. He can be an aggressive litigator when it is appropriate to do so but will also advise you when he believes it is best to compromise on certain issues. He is mindful of your intentions and how you wish to settle your legal matter. He is honest and upfront and truly cares about his clients. If you are seeking a strong advocate to represent you in your family law matter, I would highly recommend Mr. Dana Stewart.

Dana made a very tough process as easy as it could be. He was there every time I had questions (and I had a lot) and offered great, sound, advice. I would recommend him to anyone who wants a lawyer who will explain all your options and work with you to find the best option that works specifically for you. Dana prepared me for every step of the way and we ran through many scenarios that made me feel ready for whatever was coming next. His profession can be extremely tough and he handled every step with class and professionalism.

I have been professionally collaborating with Ms. Pruitt for over a decade, as a Licensed Professional Counselor, referring to her for when ever clients of mine are in need of legal support, either for family law directly, or when seeking a referral that would be a good fit from within her network of colleagues. My patients always reiterate positive feedback and outcomes, on her referrals as well. I appreciate her breadth of knowledge, direct approach, genuine care for her clients and availability for consult even when outside her area of expertise. I also appreciate her unbiassed treatment of clients whether being a husband, wife or partner. Very professional, efficient and effective and my number one resource for any legal matters facing my clients.

A fee months ago, we received a pretty extensive RFE for a TN1 visa and were pretty anxious as to what steps to take next. Benjamin happily offered us a free consultation where we talked for about an hour and discussed a plan of action on what kind of documents we should seem out and what kind of information we should include. After a month and a half of contacting clients to get specific documents and evidence. I drafted an RFE response letter myself and hired Benjamin to go over it to improve it to maximise our chances. He did an incredible job and had a very fast turnaround for a fair price. I would 100% recommend him to anyone looking to get help with their cases and are looking for somebody who cares, without breaking the bank.

Benjamin is a great, knowledgable attorney for anyone who needs help with their TN. He explained everything I needed to know, gave sound advice and helped ease some anxieties I had about the process. Can't recommend him enough!

Explained everything super well and was very quick to write up all the paperwork I needed to apply for my TN. Thanks to him I had no trouble getting my TN at the border even though multiple other people were getting turned away that same day for not having a particular document or piece of paper with them. On top of that his fee is extremely reasonable and much cheaper than many other firms.

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Frisco, Texas?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
