Lori filed a motion to modify a protective order for me on a Thursday afternoon and by Friday morning the judge had already approved and signed the order. Lori is a professional in every sense of the word. Kind courteous and caring! I highly recommend her for any of your legal needs.

Lori did an exceptional job for us on an adoption case. She went way beyond what was expected and put in many hours making sure that this adoption went through. I don't know what we would have done without her outstanding work!

If you want the best hire Lori. Not only is she the most knowledgeable attorney I've ever met but she supports her clients 100%. She is trustworthy, hard-working, and efficient when it comes to handling her cases. She goes above and beyond for her clients and treats them with the upmost respect. We cannot thank her enough for what she did for our family. Our daughter has her forever family because of Lori's actions! She made our family whole and I wouldn't trust anyone else. This Tier-4 law school graduate represented me in a misdemeanor DWI, and it was a disaster. She repeatedly urged me to accept a plea deal and admit guilt to something I did not do, then engaged in activities that would raise eyebrows in the court of Caligula. Ms. Kaspar dragged her feet and failed to contact my witnesses, failed to request business records and publicly attacked me, calling me 'crazy' and implied I was 'ignorant' for not accepting a plea deal from her friend, the prosecutor (another Tier-4 law school alumni.) Our defense was the "necessity defense" and it was completely justified and supported by facts. Halfway through the trial, Ms. Kaspar whispered that the judge refused to allow the necessity defense. It was incomprehensible to me that a judge would refuse to hear any arguments of the Defense prior to making such a decision, but there was no mechanism by which I could make inquiry to the judge. Trial proceeded and I was found guilty of DWI, as was the case. Evidence shows that I had surgery 4 days prior to the DWI and my docs had prescribed incompatible prescriptions, resulting in complete respiratory depression. After phoning 9-1-1 5 times and waiting for 3 different ambulances over a 35 minute duration (they all got lost) I had no alternative than to drive myself to the ER, which was less than a mile away. I didn't make it. I pulled off the road safely and fell unconscious in my vehicle at the entrance to the ER. This was a medication mismatch that lead to my death. Medication was taken as prescribed, I called 9-1-1 when I knew I was dying, I waited 35+minutes for an ambulance that never came, so I tried to save my own life and get to the hospital. In my opinion, this lady could not fight her way out of a wet paper-bag, even if she were Edward Scissor-hands. May I strongly encourage any potential clients of this attorney reach out to the Bar and just see what she has been convicted of and accused of. HIRE ANYONE ELSE.

I have always been told to get a will and I kept putting it off. I finally contacted Mr Davis. Him and Jessica made the process so easy I have no idea why I did not get it done sooner.

I was involved in a car accident and needed representation. When I googled, the first first result was the Cain Law Firm. From start to finish I was treated with care and concern. Brett Cain didn't make me feel like just another person. His entire office showed me respect and valued my opinion and thoughts. They worked along side me until the completion of the process. Any questions I had were answered quickly and thoroughly. Honestly, I can't express how happy I am with the Brett Cain Law Firm. I highly recommend this office.

Mr. Cain & staff we truly a blessing in a horrible time! I was in a wreck & didn't know where to turn. I went online looked up car wreck attorneys & he popped up. After reading review after review of nothing but positive feedback I decided to give them a call. He got me in right away, sat down with me and was very upfront about what he thought about my case. Laid everything on the table from what he could do, to what he wouldn't do and he let me in know right up front this is a long long process. They were in constant contact with me. Always available when I called. The ladies in the office would check on me. Anything I needed answered or done was completed in a very timely matter. He walks you through step by step of everything you need to know. They don't make you feel like "just a client" I highly recommend Mr. Cain if you are ever in need of an attorney! Very honest & hard working crew he has! Very satisfied with everything his office did for my family & I!!

  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Granbury, Texas?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
