Worst Firm I have ever dealt with. I retained them for a business and for my divorce, while Kellye Sorelle was still working at the firm. Unfortunately, against my better judgement I remained with them after her departure. My divorce took 22 months to finalize and in the 20+ months The Hyde Firm worked my divorce, they never filed a single response on my behalf, to any petition from the opposing counsel. They were completely unresponsive to my emails, voice messages, texts, etc.. At one point they sent confidential information to the opposing counsel during discovery, which was for their eyes only. When I closed out my business with them, they sent me another clients information mixed into my legal files.......what a disaster. I ended up retaining Koons Fuller Law Firm and they finalized my divorce in five weeks. Wow, what a difference! As for the business side, I had contracts submitted to this firm that never got reviewed or had any feedback provided from a legal perspective. Months after the non responsiveness, I just stopped sending them items for the business altogether. This is just a small snippet of issues, I could go on. Hopefully nobody goes through what I did.

Ashley is very professional. She has assisted my wife with a real estate transfer and my mother with obtaining control of her Living Trust. Both circumstances obtained positive outcomes for us. I highly recommend her!

Paul Hyde and his practice was such an injustice to me during my divorce. If took 2 years to get a divorce and we didn't even have any children. He won't enforce anything the judge told my ex to pay for. But it sure didn't make it where if my ex does pay, it goes into account set up at his firm to be distributed to me.

Expertise in Medicaid and elder law

We have sent many clients to him over the past several years and never had any negative feedback from anyone. He is always willing to help with any questions I have on cases that are not even his clients. He and his staff are always quick to respond and excellent to work with. They are great people who really know medicaid rules and the medicaid process is always so much smoother when they are involved.”

I was involved in a car accident and needed representation. When I googled, the first first result was the Cain Law Firm. From start to finish I was treated with care and concern. Brett Cain didn't make me feel like just another person. His entire office showed me respect and valued my opinion and thoughts. They worked along side me until the completion of the process. Any questions I had were answered quickly and thoroughly. Honestly, I can't express how happy I am with the Brett Cain Law Firm. I highly recommend this office.

Mr. Cain & staff we truly a blessing in a horrible time! I was in a wreck & didn't know where to turn. I went online looked up car wreck attorneys & he popped up. After reading review after review of nothing but positive feedback I decided to give them a call. He got me in right away, sat down with me and was very upfront about what he thought about my case. Laid everything on the table from what he could do, to what he wouldn't do and he let me in know right up front this is a long long process. They were in constant contact with me. Always available when I called. The ladies in the office would check on me. Anything I needed answered or done was completed in a very timely matter. He walks you through step by step of everything you need to know. They don't make you feel like "just a client" I highly recommend Mr. Cain if you are ever in need of an attorney! Very honest & hard working crew he has! Very satisfied with everything his office did for my family & I!!

Everybody at Cain Law Firm was very inviting, professional, and personable. They took everything into their hands, while still making me feel in control, and did not disappoint. I would use them several times over. Very strongly recommend using them.

I hired Jody Glasgow for a divorce about 5 years ago and have used him for several other family matters since then. I can say that he is very honest and has a great staff. He's also what you're looking for when it comes to a bulldog in court. He's a rare combination of really nice and really aggressive. I would recommend him any time. He's not cheap but every penny was well spent.

What Questions Should I Ask Before Hiring a Lawyer?

Hiring the right lawyer is crucial for the success of your case. Here are some important questions to ask during your initial consultation:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Granbury, Texas?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
