Very courteous and helpful from the start! Didn't know where to start after my car accident but contacted him after a referral from a good friend and wasn't disappointed. Very knowledgeable regarding my case and always accessible/quick to respond. Would definitely work with him again tho hopefully under different circumstances :)

Recently hired him as my criminal defense attorney. He was present to take my initial payment, but after that nothing. I’ve tried calling and visiting his office on several occasions , he has yet to get back to me. I greatly regret hiring him , I feel left out in the dark with my case .

Amber always had my best interest in mind especially when I didn’t know what to do. She listened attentively to my case and what I wanted and she went above and beyond to advise me. I’m grateful to her and her staff (Nohemi) for being patient with me and staying the course. The court ruled in favor to all of my requests. Don’t hesitate to give her a call.

Amber was highly recommended to me by a close friend who had previously hired her for her case. I had walked into Amber's office getting ready to just throw in the towel after knocking on several attorney's doors and being disappointed. After our consultation, I left her office knowing that she would be the one I would hire to fight for me and most importantly my child. She made sure she spoke to me with facts and did not promise anything that she knew could not be possible. She is definitely not that attorney that is in it for the money, she actually cares about her clients and each and one of their cases. I hired Amber on more than one occasion and each time she fought like a pit pull in court and made sure she did her homework before even walking into that courtroom. I placed my trust on her and her work and I am glad that I did because if it wasn't for her I would still be stuck in the same rut that I was in. Amber gave me the courage I was lacking to fight back and not be intimidated by a bully. I highly recommend Amber to anyone who is looking for an attorney that not only does her homework but treats her clients as humans and not dollar signs. If I ever were to need an attorney again she would be the first one to call without hesitation. Amber was worth every penny because she gave me and my child a peace of mind and a peaceful life and I will forever be greatful.

Thank you for a quick and comprehensive process. Ms. Amber was a helpful attorney and quickly handled my paperwork and scheduled court date. Minimal effort on my part was needed. Her secretary Nohemi was very helpful when Ms. Amber was not available. I appreciate all your efforts. Thank you again. Highly recommend.

I consulted with Ana a few years ago about applying for citizenship for my husband. Navigating Customs and Immigration is such a complex process. The directions for each form are long and complicated, and the stakes were so high for my husband and I. Ana eased my anxiety, and gave me all the information my husband and I needed to apply. She gave me an overview of the citizenship process from start to finish, including when each of the applications would be due. She helped my husband and I understand the documents that were needed, and the order to put them in through several rounds of sending in applications and paperwork. She prepared us for the interview so that we answered questions confidently and accurately. Ana was with us every step of the way. I don't know where we would have ended up without her calm expertise!

Ms. Villegas helped me come to the U.S. to marry my fiance. She helped me get my green card and then my U.S. citizenship. She is a good attorney and cares about her clients. I recommend her to help anyone with their immigration case.

Judge Robles went above and beyond for me for the past 2 years. Had a custody battle with an ex who wanted to get out of child support but only wanted custody of one child (other parent never attended court cases which prolonged the case) and Judge Robles helped me get the case dismissed and also the non custodial parent had to pay way more in child support when we finally got done with the case. Thank you and the girls in the office for always keeping me updated with my court dates and for getting this case closed finally. Highly recommended!

My family and I went through two attorneys before we found Mr. Lozano. Just from the few hours he had been put on our case, he took the initiative to help it at every angle. He is reliable, easy to contact, works hard, and really listens to your concerns. Highly recommend him!

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Harlingen, Texas?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
