My hopes are that you’ve taken the time to read my review of Mr. Khawaja. What this man did for my son was way beyond my expectations! I was completely filled with fear after my son was arrested for a felony charge along with a DUI. I’m telling you now, if you or your loved one has been charged with any type of crime this is the lawyer to hire! He got the felony completely dismissed along with no probation, no fine and only a few days in county jail for the DUI. I am being completely honest when I say don’t hire a different attorney, hire this man, he is absolutely amazing at his job and will shock you with his results. I am so grateful to him and want anyone and everyone else in the Houston area to not confuse themselves with the never-ending list of attorneys out there and call his office. You won’t regret it for one moment. I am so thankful for being referred to him and want others to know how competent he is. From the bottom of my heart thank you Mr. Khawaja, you saved my son from a 2-10 sentence in prison!

I was a student in Houston and unfortunately got charged with misdemeanor theft in July 2014, but didn't find out until I moved back to my hometown in the Atlanta area. As an accounting major, I REFUSED to handle this case without an attorney. I called other attorneys at first, but I honestly didn't feel comfortable hiring them. I'm very picky and definitely wasn't going to just hire any attorney. I came across his profile on Avvo and was impressed because reviews are very important. I was 100% CONFIDENT in hiring Mr. Khawaja. He is very HONEST and kept it 100 with me. As a young African-American lady, Mr. Khawaja truly understands how hard it can be for minorities in society, period. He could tell that I was extemely nervous talking to the judge but was still able to let me know that everything was going to be okay. He was able to get me what I wanted which was for me not to get convicted for my theft charge. If I was to ever get in any legal trouble in Houston again (God forbid), I would definitely hire him, no doubt. He gave me a taste of my own medicine by letting me know that I have an attitude problem and that it needs to be fixed and I appreciate him for that because that means that he really care about his clients. He desrves 10 stars for his expertise and professionalism.

Thank you for saving our boy! He is a great kid with real mental health issues and Mr. Khawaja was just a super professional. Thank you so much Mr. Khawaja. No one wanted to hear us out or let us explain what problems we have been having with our boy but Mr. Khawaja listened and teamed up with our sons doctor to help get my son reinstated on the felony probation he violated 3 separate times after being guaranteed to be revoked with TDC time per our first retained misinformed counsel. I retained Mr. Khawaja from a recommendation from our priest and he passionately advocated to the judge our position and against all odds the Judge reinstated the probation and amended the conditions of the probation to account for my sons mental health issue. People like my son slip through the cracks and sometimes become felons because of cheap and lazy incompetent lawyers. Mr. Khawaja made me happy to pay his fees and because of him my son will not be a statistic! Mr. Khawaja showed super attention to detail and his confidence comforted the entire family through this stressful ordeal.

I am so thankful I met this lawyer. My doctor recommended I see Mr. Khawaja after a short conversation about my stress caused by a criminal matter. I called the lawyer and since the first consultation felt so grateful for his representation. Look I was guilty. I did it. I was mortified of the consequences and the stigma associated with the conviction but Mr. Khawaja was super confidant and apparently for good reason because my case was dismissed. I will be forever grateful. This guy has fire in his eyes and is passionate about everything always! I called my doctor to thank him for introducing me only to find out he too was a very satisfied client. This lawyer is legit and that did not go unnoticed. Thank you!

Great attorney. Hard working, knowledgeable. I was arrested with prostitution and operating a massage parlor wrong hours. I was so worried and depressed. That caused me tremendous hardship. I had a public defender in the beginning. The P.D. wanted me to plead guilty and I said no because I was not guilty. I had interviews with several other attorney's prior to meeting with Ibrahim Elias Khawaja. None of them made me feel comfortable like Mr. Khawaja. He listened to me and actually cared about my case. He was very understanding and his retainer fee was reasonable to other attorneys in the area. He went way beyond what was expected. He took time to look at the evidence an effective defense. His familiarity with the courts and his knowledge of stand out, and he is well known and well respected in the prosecutor's office and with the police and sheriffs departments. With my attorney's help, the judge allowed a very favorable outcome. No conviction and all charges dismissed. He always kept me informed of my case and returned my phone calls promptly. I cannot thank him enough for what he did for my case. I was very satisfied with the result. I am thankful from the bottom of my heart. Also I want to thank my friend Nate who recommened Ibrahim Elias Khawaja to defend me in a rather complicated criminal case. Thanks to God for bringing back my life with this dismissal.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Houston, Texas?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
