Pros
1
Dedicated and passionate about her work, ensuring thorough research and strong representation
“Because of Jessica's dedication to our case, we were able to adopt our precious girl in May. She is a phenomenal attorney that researches law constantly and makes sure her paperwork is untouchable.”
2
Effective at communicating, explaining the process, and advocating for the client's best interests
“She listened to what I wanted and knew exactly what needed to be done in order to make it happen. When I was getting discouraged with the process and considered backing down on some of my demands, she encouraged me to not give up and ultimately I was awarded everything I had initially hoped for.”
3
Skilled at negotiating and achieving favorable outcomes for clients
“She approached the case with an open mind and took everything that was said with a grain of salt until she saw evidence on either side to corroborate a story. She advocated strictly for the kids interests, and used effective, non-judgemental communication to correct me or my ex-husband indiscriminately.”
Cons
1
Lack of communication and responsiveness, including missed deadlines and appointment cancellations without notice
“I DID NOT LIKE the ...Confidentiality issues / No Shows / Cancelations- After she was hired, I started to see that the attorney missed deadlines, and canceled appointments without notice.”
2
Billing issues, including errors and denying access to documents billed for
“I DID NOT LIKE the...billing practices either. I received an invoice and found a number of errors on it. Errors such as services that were never rendered. I DID NOT LIKE ... being denied copies of things I'm billed for.”
3
Failure to adequately prepare for court proceedings and advocate for the client's case
“I DID NOT LIKE ... that on the day of court "none" of the things this attorney said she would do was ever brought up in court.”

Worse lawyer ever!! She is the most hands off attorney I ever met.our initial consultation was great she made me feel comfortable. Once I paid the retainer fee everything changed !! I learned during my mediation by the mediator that I had trial in less than a month! Why didn’t she prep me or tell me? We never prepped anything she never asked for evidence. The day after she dropped me as a client . She only collected money from me and left me. I got a new lawyer 2 weeks later and what took her 6 months , took my new attorney 2 months to accomplish. She is rude, she doesn’t answer calls or emails and gives you Attitude when you finally reach her. Needless to say I won with my new attorney so the best thing I got out of it was finding my new attorney who won the case.

I am an attorney and cpa. I have a real estate dispute with another attorney about the meaning of various contractual provisions related to a disputed transaction. I found a case which I believed indicated my client had treated the transaction properly. Opposing counsel believed the case said just the opposite. I engaged Jeff to give his expert opinion on the case. Not only did Jeff agree with my position and explain why, but he also found other grounds and cases which supported my argument that the client had treated the transaction properly. All in all an exceptional piece of work. I highly recommend Jeff.

I'm not good with words so bare with me writing this. Let me just start out saying if u need any Attroney for whatever case, please please give Jessica Fritz a call. She helped me in my divorce case that I have been dealing with for 3 years and I'm So much Thankful I found her and picked up the phone and dialed that number. It may take time like cases always does but Jessica knows what she's doing and she will get r done. I swear I was in that court room sitting there nervous about what's gonna happen but when the judged called my name and Jessica stood up to represent me, some how right then I was gonna b ok. She knew what to say to the judge that I saw in her than the other Attorneys that were in there. she was strong she kicked butt in there like Chuck Norris did in his Court room in Walker Texas Ranger. I was so Thankful for that.

What Questions Should I Ask Before Hiring a Lawyer?

Hiring the right lawyer is crucial for the success of your case. Here are some important questions to ask during your initial consultation:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the expected timeline for my case?

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Houston, Texas?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
