Hal represented me for my divorce, and he exceeded all of my expectations. I started the process almost 2 years ago after retaining another lawyer which didn’t do much to move along the process. I then retained Hal in November of 2023, and he went above and beyond to make sure the process went smoothly and walked me through everything to ensure I understand what was going to happen. My divorce was finalized May of 2024 and it was the best case scenario, thanks to Hal. I would highly recommend Hal Hale to represent you as an attorney.

A friend of mine recommended Hal after my friend went through a tough divorce with joint custody. I expected a difficult joint custody battle and wanted a lawyer who was willing to fight. Hal was always very knowledgeable, direct, professional, and polite. He politely but directly let me know exactly why some of the things I wanted were inconsistent with Texas law. He also set expectations of mediation and if we had to go to court. Hal's ability to read people is even greater than his knowledge of the law. He was up front and honest about billing and everything went as we initially discussed. Hal and his team were very fair and accurate with the billing. When I contacted them they always answered my questions directly and did not keep me on the phone longer than I was willing to talk and they never contacted me unless it was necessary. When I asked Hal about opposing counsel he answered me honestly of their abilities, helping to set expectations. Due to Hal's advice, ability to read and accommodate me, the outcome was favorable to myself and child. I will use him in the future, if necessary.

After a free consultation, Mr. Hale quickly formulated a plan to protect the best interests of my children and myself. Mr. Hale was aggressive, very strategic and extremely knowledgeable in his field. After numerous hearings, Mr. Hale was able to hand over several losses to the opposing counsel. Mr. Hale is an outstanding attorney and I would recommend him to any person needing assistance in family law. You will not be disappointed.

When first I sought legal representation for my divorce, I was scared and had virtually no hope that I could find someone adequately equipped to deal with my particularly complex case. Mr. Hale quickly assuaged my fears and removed any doubt with his self-assuredness, compassion, swift and accurate evaluation of a very tangled and torturous situation, and with his resoluteness. It was clear that Mr. Hale not only possesses legal expertise; he also possesses a keen understanding of the intricate psychological dynamics which accompany the divorce process as well as an uncommon kindness. I left that initial consultation feeling a sense of relief and hope, and even some empowerment. Mr. Hale's communication skills are excellent. He is highly articulate and never fails to truly listen. Moreover, he does so with the utmost of patience and respect. I cannot overstate how much I appreciate that. Also, Mr. Hale is always willing to answer questions and address any and all concerns. He has never once rushed me along because of a busy schedule. Mr. Hale's excellent communication skills did not extend only to me. He has been more than proficient in dealing with opposing counsel and has fought aggressively, in an appropriate manner, and tirelessly on my behalf. Mr. Hale exercises careful and critical thought before arriving at any given conclusion or rendering any necessary judgment or corresponding plan of action. So often, I would bombard him with massive quantities of information and/or far too wordy communications. Whereas I, more often than not, felt overwhelmed with all the information and struggled to determine what was necessary, Mr. Hale had a remarkable ability to filter through it all and pull out the most salient pieces. His analytical skills truly amaze me. How anyone can absorb such large quantities of information is difficult for me to comprehend. I admire Mr. Hale greatly. for not only is he exceptionally bright and extremely talented at what he does, he is a man of unequalled integrity whom provided me limitless support, encouragement, and compassion throughout the most difficult time of my entire life. I do not possess words sufficient to express the depth of my gratitude for Mr. Hal Hale and his single-minded dedication to me as a client and as an human being. Nor, can I recommend such an exceptional man highly enough. No individual could not consider themselves extremely fortunate to have this great man as one's attorney or as one's friend.

Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Houston, Texas?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
