Not sure what this guy’s problem is, but he can’t write a demand letter to my former employer to get the excess tax withholding??? How could you trust him with something more complicated?

I required an employment and separation agreement reviewed for accuracy, legal protection, and matching of terms between documents. The Verde Law Firm was able to take my request immediately whereas all Other forms wanted 3 or more days before they could make a decision. The Verde Law Firm reviewed the documents within 24 hours, made a solid comparison between documents, informed me of my obligations, and made numerous recommendations for me to consider. On top of that, we had a zoom call to review and be sure that we were both on the level of understanding. While my matter was specific to an employment matter, I am certain that the firm would provide good advice on just about any contract law matter. A relative of mine was looking for a lawyer to represent her in a discrimination and retaliation case, which the company terminated her unlawfully. I suggested this firm solely due to the previous reviews and location, but unfortunately we didn’t get the same experience as the other 5 star reviews. The lady who booked us was great, however Mr. Verde was less than helpful once he called for the consultation. Not only did he not take our case into consideration, but he also made us feel unsubstantial and less confident. We have substantial evidence of retaliation and unlawful termination, even went to the EEOC and got a Right to Sue. But Verde brushed us off, saying “the company can fire at will” and that we “shouldn’t have went to the EEOC” because “we don’t have case”, despite the mountain of evidence such as emails and official documents from the company. He pretty much told us we don’t have a chance, even though other ex-employees settled with same company and literally had nothing for defense. I’m not sure what makes our discrimination case so different than everyone else who left a 5 star review, unless he was being discriminatory of my relative’s age (64) and he felt like it would’ve been harder to win the case. It was sad how he treated us compared to others in the reviews. Be wary of this firm.

I hired Josh to represent me in an employment matter that would have been a very difficult situation for me if it were not for his professionalism and genuine concern. He has been available every step of the way throughout a very long process, answering questions and keeping me updated. Josh is very professional and knowledgeable but most of all, I feel that he really wants the best outcome for his clients. I highly recommend Josh and his firm.

I want to clarify that I am not a client of this firm. This review is based on my consultation and limited engagement. Some firms like to reply and say they never engaged with a person because they don’t recognize the online username, but like most people I do not have my full legal name listed for privacy and safety reasons. This is a real review. The Verde law firm took some time to respond to my inquiry, approximately 2 weeks which I think is too long, however I do understand that their firm may have been very busy with active clients or may have had a backlog of consultations. Based on my interactions with other firms however, it did seem longer than I would anticipate. Josh and his colleague offered a free consultation which occurred on 8/30/23. This was very much appreciated as many firms in Houston charge $200-$500 for a consultation. Based on my experience the average is $250. For a free consultation, Josh did supersede my expectations. He actually was willing to answer questions and clarified why he felt I had a legal claim and where he thought my claim was weak. Now, on the contrary, I am slightly inclined to believe Josh may have not given me the consultation at all if he were not interested in taking the case. Josh did all the talking in the consultation and so I believe that the other lawyer was newer and maybe being mentored. Josh presented himself as knowledgeable, professional, down to earth, and like-able, and I think these are great assets for him as an attorney. My only complaint is that Josh didn’t seem to want to address the area of the claim that he felt wasn’t very strong, although he agreed it had legal basis and could be argued. To me this demonstrated a lack of confidence in his negotiation and/or litigation skills. That may not be the case, but it raised concern. Further, Josh raised concerns that I hadn’t even thought of. While I think this is his job as a legal counsel, he didn’t raise them in a way that made me feel confident in his ability to address them. He also seemed to prefer to separate these concerns from my claim, meaning I would have needed additional representation or pay additional fees. Josh was ready to send a representation letter but he created concerns because he wasn’t willing to manage the claim(s) in their entirety. I asked for Josh to let me sit on it which he granted. I appreciated that he wasn’t trying to sell me under pressure. His lack in confidence in part of my claims created doubt for me. These parts of the claim were equally important to me. I then sent Josh and team an email stating my concerns. I think Josh fed off the fear he created in me based on his response. Josh later rescinded his offer for representation and I felt it was because he didn’t feel I was willing to pay the additional fees and he lacked confidence in pursuing the case in its entirety; he really preferred to go after one part of the claim. Obviously not knowing what the additional fees might be, I did tell him if the concern he raised became an issue, I would address that part of my claim on my own. I couldn’t commit at that time to paying for representation for a hypothetical situation that might not have come up. Overall, I do recommend Josh, depending on the case and complexities. I wasn’t mad at his decision. It’s important to have an attorney that feels confident in fighting a big company, and in my case Josh wasn’t confident in the entire case; only part of it so he would not have represented me well. He recommended someone else but I was okay as I had other firms interested. Update: I wanted to thank the firm for replying. I did not take the decision personal. Josh and team were professional and I didn't think less. It is great that the firm also can handle large companies as noted in their list. My intent was to say that my case had an aspect that they didn't feel confident in based on their experience and it wasn't a fit, for both, because that areas was important to me. It was not my intent to suggest they are not capable.
