Until meeting Will Adams, I completely abhorred lawyers---even to the extent of avoiding them socially. Unfortunately, a woman on her cell phone made me seek out a PI injury attorney. A referral led me to Will even though I thought Katy a bit far from my home. It is the best referral I have ever been given resulting in one of the best and most successful professional relationships and outcome I have ever encountered. He is truly an exceptionally smart and gifted attorney who respects his clients. There were times when I grew tired of the fight, yet he encouraged me to continue on. Unlike other lawyers, he wasn't more concerned about his own interests or bottom line. He stayed focused on what was best for my case and kept moving forward, no matter what road blocks we encountered. Will and his staff made me feel a part of their team, not some annoying client as others had. If you need a PI attorney, place your trust in Will. He will see you through it. You won't be disappointed. He made all the difference in the legal outcome and my life after the accident.

Will and his team are fantastic partners to work with in what can best be described as the unknown path of a lawsuit. Will walked me through the process step by step and was available to answer any questions I had about paperwork and what to expect next. Will is compassionate and tough. He knows his stuff and is not afraid to push forward on an issue. His depth of knowledge was amazing and let me know I had made the right decision in choosing his firm to represent my case. I highly recommend Will and his team.

My experience with Will Adams and the whole team at The Adams Law Firm was absolutely fantastic! I was injured in a major car accident and required surgery and several months of physical therapy to recover from my injuries. The whole process of dealing with insurance companies after an accident can be very overwhelming, especially to a person who has no reference for how to handle this situation. Mr. Adams and his team made this process as painless as possible for me and reassured me at every turn that he and his team were doing everything they could to make sure I got everything I deserved. They actually cared about my case like I was a friend and made me feel like I always had someone in my corner. They were easy to get a hold of, quick to respond, and walked me through each step that needed to be taken so that I was always aware of how my case was advancing. They contacted me periodically to ask how my recovery process was going which meant a lot to me because it showed that they cared about me personally in addition to winning my case. I could not have made it through this process without all of their help, support, and dedication.

I highly recommend Elizabeth. Elizabeth was available to meet with me and discuss my business matter. Her knowledge was outstanding and I received a follow up email explaining my options again. I would highly recommend her if the time is critical and if you are looking to get more accurate clear options in detail about your legal matter.

I was in an accident, and my insurance refused to cover my injuries, and the lawyer I had wasn’t helping at all. I reached out to Joe Stephens' firm, and they made sure the insurance covered all my expenses. I’m beyond grateful for their support and expertise.

I couldn't have chosen a better team to take my case. This firm really knows what they're doing, watch out for other firms that won't even return your calls. I am really glad I called you.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Katy, Texas?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
